Monsters: Faerun Monsters II

Monsters: Faerun Monsters II

Another batch of assorted Forgotten Realms monsters. Watchspiders are more intelligent than normal monstrous spiders, and can be trained as guards. Dweomervores are small dragons with a wide array of spell-like abilities that feed on magic items. Osquips are multilegged rodents. Cavvekans are underground bat-dogs.

Tentacle (12): thrust 4d+2 crushing (KYOS: 5d+1 crushing), Reach C-2.
Dimension Door (13): The laraken can spend 1 FP and make a Ready maneuver to teleport to any place within 10 yards, as if using the Warp (p. B97) advantage.
Absorb Magic: The laraken has DR 20 against magic. Each point of damage this DR stops turns into one character point that the laraken can use to heal itself. These points are stored into a pool that can contain up to 20 character points. Once this pool is full, each point of DR will still stop one point of magic damage, but will not convert it into a character point. The laraken does not have to use stored points immediately. It loses absorbed points – unused ones first – at the rate of one point per second. Restoring one HP drains 2 stored points immediately. Such healing is permanent. Only HP in excess of the laraken’s usual scores drains away. The laraken cannot absorb damage from its own abilities.
The laraken has Magic Resistance 3 (Improved), but whenever a spell is cast on it, the laraken can waive its bonus to resist from Magic Resistance and instead roll its unmodified resistance roll. The caster still gets a penalty equal to the MR. If the spell fails for whatever reason, the laraken gains a number of character points equal to the spell’s modified Fatigue Point cost to cast (e.g., reduced by high skill). It can use these points to heal itself. This functions exactly like magical damage absorption described above.
In addition, whenever the laraken strikes a creature with magical abilities with a tentacle or otherwise touches them, roll a Quick Contest of Will between the two creatures. The victim gets a bonus equal to their best Talent with any of the powers affected. If the laraken wins, it neutralizes the victim’s magical powers for minutes equal to its margin of victory, and temporarily acquires the powers it neutralized – including all their enhancements and limitations – for the duration. It cannot use this neutralization again until the “borrowed” powers wear off or it “returns” them (a free action on it turn). If it loses or ties, there’s no effect – but critical failure on the Will roll cripples this ability for 1d hours. Once the laraken has neutralized a given subject, it can’t affect them again until their powers recover.
The laraken cannot absorb shadow magic or other kinds of magic that use the Shadow Weave.

Traits: 360° Vision (Panoptic I); Amphibious; Dependency (Absorbed Magic; Weekly); Detect (Magic; Magical; Reflexive); Doesn’t Breathe; Doesn’t Eat or Drink (Food Only); Doesn’t Sleep; Extra-Flexible Arms; Infravision; Injury Tolerance (Homogenous, No Blood, No Eyes, No Head, No Neck); Invertebrate; No Fine Manipulators; No Legs (Slithers); No Mouth; Wild Animal.
    Skills: Brawling-12; Wrestling-12.
    Creature Type: Outsider.

POISON

Watchspider Venom
This poison is extracted from a watchspider. A living victim must make an immediate HT-2 roll or suffer 1d-1 toxic damage. Every hour for 4 more cycles he must make another HT-2 roll to resist or take the same amount of damage. After losing 2/3 HP to this poison, the victim gets a -5 penalty to ST until he heals above this threshold.
Form: Follow-Up Poison.
Cost: $120 (singular); $45 (5-batched).
Recipe: $12; 1 day; defaults to Poisons-1.
Statistics: Toxic Attack 1d-1 (Cyclic, 1 hour, 4 cycles, Resistible, +40%; Follow-Up Poison, -20%; Resistible, HT-2, -20%; Symptoms, 2/3 HP, -5 ST, +25%) [4].
