Monster: Slag Giant

Monster: Slag Giant

I've been asked to convert the slag giant from Pathfinder. This is a simple monster - just a crossbreed of a stone giant and fire giant. They have a demeanor closer to that of a stone giant, but an aptitude for smithwork of a fire giant. In the original source, they could also do extra damage to objects, but I consider that a gamist ability not worthy being on the statblock - if you want that, learn the Breaking Blow skill. Also, I'm sure it's possible to make a "giant slag" joke here somewhere.

Monster: Dullahan

Monster: Dullahan

This conversion is something one of the readers requested. I was surprised that the dullahan appeared in D&D only in the 5th edition (if you do not count the headless horseman from Imagine Magazine #23). The dullahan also appears in Bestiary 2 for Pathfinder 1e. Both of the monsters are similar, so I decided to combine them into a single entry. Since there are some summoning abilities in play, I also had to convert some "support" monsters.
I vaguely remember that some media treat dullahans as fey, not as undead. In that case, you can remove the undead traits, such as Injury Tolerance (Unliving) and add Vulnerability (Cold Iron, x2) [-10] or something like that.

Monster: Kamaitachi

Monster: Kamaitachi

Fulfilling a request. Kamaitachi, also known as a sickle weasel, is a Japanese yokai. I based this statblock on the Pathfinder version of this monster.

Monsters: Crab People

Monsters: Crab People

There's several humanoid crab races in D&D and Pathfinder. Yurian (also known as aldani in the Forgotten Realms setting) from Fiend Folio seems to be an update of the crabman from 1e Fiend Folio, judging by the almost identical descriptions. Crucian is a more humanlike crabfolk species that appears in Sandstorm and Miniatures Handbook. Karkinoi is a brutish crab monster from Bestiary 4 for Pathfinder. Karkanaks are interesting crab people from the third-party Cerulean Seas setting for Pathfinder (that setting is great, I highly recommend checking it out - I'm going to steal a lot of content from it). And there's also Sartani from the Al-Qadim setting. Karkanaks and crucians can be used as expensive racial templates for PCs.

How to: Rogue Talents

How to: Rogue Talents

I've received a request to create some power-ups for the roguish type of characters. Since the class features of the D&D rogue are translated into Danger Sense, targeting vitals, and the Traps skill, I'll have to come up with something new, possibly taking inspiration from the rogue talents of the Pathfinder rogue.

Sorcery: Witch Spellcasting

Sorcery: Witch Spellcasting

Pathfinder introduces a new arcane spellcasting class - the witch. She gains her powers from an unknown patron through her familiar. Let's see how we can sorcerify it.

Monsters/Lenses: Echohusks

Monsters/Lenses: Echohusks

Echohusks are zombies animated by residual psychic energies that have slain them. Unlike normalzombies, they are not immune to mind control and can transform damage into psychic stun. Dread echokusks also can terrify others (and are not immune to fear themselves).

Monster: Duergar Tyrant

Monster: Duergar Tyrant

Duergar tyrants are duergars with inborn kineticist powers. However, in my framework of psychic magic there is not place for the kineticist, so instead I interpreted this template as a normal duergar with an alternative set of psionic abilities.

Monster: Mnemor

Monster: Mnemor

Mnemors are psychic devils that are quite forgettable. I do not understand how Paizo authors decide on which abilities will be magical and which abilities will be psychic. Seems random to me.

Monsters: Dark Ones

Monsters: Dark Ones

The dark ones are a species of underground-dwelling humanoids that despise light. In D&D, they have two subraces - dark creepers and dark stalkers. Pathfinder adds 3 or 4 extra ones, but the only one I'm going to cover here is the dark empath.

Cerebric cysts are sentient, psychically empowered brain-shaped oozes that delight in mentally drainingsmarts creatures. Weird.

Monsters: Caulborn

Monsters: Caulborn

The caulborn are a race of outsiders from the Ethereal Plane that subsist on the psychic energy andknowledge. There is three subspecies - the normal caulborn, the psychically enhanced caulborn thoughtkeepers, and the caulborn chrestomaths that serve as data banks (I will leave them for some other time).

Region/Dimension of Dreams in GURPS

Region/Dimension of Dreams in GURPS

I do not know when exactly the Region of Dreams has appeared as a plane of existence in D&D, but I know it from the Manual of the Planes for the 3rd edition. In Pathfinder, a similar plane called the Dimension of Dreams was introduced in Occult Adventures. In GURPS, there's the Dream Control psionic power in GURPS Psionic Powers and three dream-related spells in GURPS Magic. Also, do not forget the Dreaming skill! In this post, I will try to consolidate some of the rules and adapt them to GURPS. In the follow-up posts I probably will expand the Dream Control power and create some new sorcery spells for dream control.
