Monster: Spider Eater

Monster: Spider Eater

Spider eaters are large insectile beasts that can paralyze their victim for weeks and implant the eggs into them. Creepy. Why are they called spider eaters?

Mandibles (14): thrust 2d cutting (KYOS: 3d+2 cutting), Reach C.
Implant: Female spider eaters lay their eggs inside paralyzed creatures of SM+2 or bigger. The eggs gestate for six weeks, then the host takes 2d toxic damage each hour for 13 cycles. This damage cannot be resisted. Once the host loses 1/2 of their HP to this effect, they begin experiencing terrible pain (p. B428) until they heal above that threshold. Once the host loses 2/3 of their HP to this effect, they begin experiencing agony (p. B428) until they heal above that threshold. The eggs can be removed with a successful Surgery roll (failure deals 1d-1 injury), or a Cure Disease spell cast at a -5 penalty. If the host dies to this effect, the young emerges, literally devouring the host from inside.

    1. I'm pretty sure that is the case. Some editions go so far as to state that they favor giant spiders as hosts for their eggs.
