Treasure: Bead of Force

Treasure: Bead of Force

The bead of force is a one-use item that deals explosive force damage and encloses the target in an immovable force sphere. Expensive for a one-shot item.

Bead of Force

Bead of Force – as an enchanted item (using Sorcery)
This small SM-8 black sphere can be thrown up to STx3.5 yards. When the sphere arrives at the end of its trajectory, it detonates with explosive force, dealing 3d crushing damage (on a miss, check for scatter; see p. B414), affecting both substantial and insubstantial targets. The target takes damage normally; anything nearby receives “collateral damage” equal to basic damage divided (2 x the distance in yards from the blast).
If a direct hit was landed, then the target becomes encircled by a shimmering force globe, just like a spherical Force Dome. The sphere contains its subject for 1 minute. Unlike Force Dome, this barrier allows air to pass, so the subject may breathe freely. The subject may struggle, but the sphere cannot be physically moved either by people outside it or by the struggles of those within. The subject is protected by the sphere – the sphere has DR 6.
Most targets resist by moving fast enough to get out – use the higher of DX or twice Basic Speed, DR provides no bonuses. Someone capable of an active defense involving teleportation or insubstantiality may choose to rely on that instead; this is a resistance roll using the controlling score, not an active defense roll.
            Statistics: Crushing Attack 3d (Affects Insubstantial, +20%; Explosion 2, +100%; Increased 1/2D, x10, +15%; Increased Range, x3.5, +20%; Limited Use, 1 use (1 shot), Slow Reload, -25%; Link, +10%; Magical, -10%; Muscle-Powered Range, -10%) [36] + Affliction 1 (DX or other; Based on DX, +20%; Cosmic, Irresistible Attack, +300%; Fixed Duration, +0%; Increased 1/2D, x10, +15%; Increased Range, x3.5, +20%; Limited Use, 1 use (1 shot), Slow Reload, -25%; Link, +10%; Magical, -10%; Muscle-Powered Range, -10%; Nuisance Effect, Multiple ways to resist, -10%; Paralysis, Variant, +150%; Reduced Duration, 1/3, -10%) [55].             TL3 Price: 2 x ($100 + 19 x $320) = $12,360.
TL8 Price: 2 x ($2,000 + 19 x $1,180) = $48,840.
