Monsters: More Undead

Monsters: More Undead

This post covers the remaining undead creatures from Monster Manual II. Famine spirits are food-obsessed ghouls. Gravecrawlers are undead worms that feed on the dead and their memories. Jahi are incorporeal creatures that dominate others and force them into hedonism. Ragewinds are whirlwind spirits that wield multiple weapons at once. And spawns of Kyuss are zombies that propagate via worms.

Vampiric Bite (13): thrust 1d-4 cutting (KYOS: 1d-6 cutting), Reach C. The gravecrawler can drain the victim’s life if the victim is helpless (pinned, stunned, unconscious, etc.), grappled, or willing. If he is wearing armor, the gravecrawler’s biting damage must penetrate its DR. Once the gravecrawler has bitten through the victim’s DR, it can drain 1 HP per second from him. For every 3 HP stolen, the gravecrawler heals 1 HP. It cannot raise its HP above normal this way. A creature that dies to this attack is turned into brittle stone.
Vast Knowledge: Once per day, tapping into the memories of the dead it has consumed, a gravecrawler may attempt a roll against any mundane skill based on IQ, Perception, or Wil, using its score in the appropriate attribute. Default penalties are not applied, but situational and equipment modifiers apply normally, as do any modifiers for advantages or disadvantages. Tech level is irrelevant. This is not a supernatural ability, but an effect of the gravecrawler accumulating knowledge.
Calcifying Aura: Any creature within 8 yards of the gravecrawler must roll a Quick Contest of HT versus the gravecrawler’s Will every second. A failure means that the creature gets a cumulative -1 penalty to HT and DX as its flesh slowly turns into stone. Should the creature lose by 5 or more, or roll a critical failure, it is instantly turned to stone. Unlike normal petrification, this actually kills the subject and cannot be reversed with Remove Curse or Stone to Flesh.

Traits: Appearance (Hideous; Universal); Doesn’t Breathe; Doesn’t Eat or Drink; Doesn’t Sleep; Double-Jointed; High Pain Threshold; Horizontal; Immunity to Metabolic Hazards; Infravision; Injury Tolerance (Unliving, No Blood, No Eyes, No Neck); Magic Resistance 3 (Improved); No Legs (Slithers); Social Stigma (Dead); Subsonic Hearing (Melee Attack, Reach C); Temperature Tolerance 10; Unaging; Uncontrollable Appetite (Dead bodies) (12); Unhealing (Partial); Unnatural.
    Skills: Stealth-13.

Punch (9): thrust 1d-1 crushing (KYOS: 1d crushing), Reach C.
Create Spawn (9): A spawn of Kyuss may transfer a worm from its own body to that of an opponent. It can to this as a linked attack to its punch, or it can fling a worm with Innate Attack (Projectile). The ranged version has a maximum range of 10 yards. The worm must touch bare skin to be effective. It stays inert for 2 seconds, during which it can be killed with an attack (treat it as a SM-7 creature with HP 1) or a touch of silver. If not killed, it begin burrowing into the target’s flesh and reaches the brain, dealing 1d-2 toxic damage each second for 15 cycles (each instance of damage can be negated with an HT roll). While the worm is inside a victim, a Remove Curse or Cure Disease (at -4) effect destroys it, and a Dispel Evil or Neutralize Poison effect delays its progress for 10d minutes. It can also be extracted with a Surgery roll that takes 2 minutes and deals 1d-2 injury.
Should a victim die when a worm is embedded into its brain, it rises as a spawn of Kyuss 1d minutes later, if its original SM was from -2 to +1. Anything smaller quickly putrefies, while anything larger becomes a normal zombie.
Fear Aura: The spawn of Kyuss can take a Ready maneuver to project an aura of fear. Everyone within 10 yards of the spawn of Kyuss must roll an immediate Fright Check (p. B360). If a victim succeeds at his Fright Check, he will be unaffected by this spawn’s Fear Aura for one hour.
Kyuss’s Gift: Any living creature injured by a spawn of Kyuss’s punch risks contracting a magical disease. Roll against HT-3. If the roll is failed, the infected creature takes 1d-1 toxic damage one day later, and then every day for 5 more days. Each instance of damage can be negated by a HT-3 roll. When the victim loses 2/3 HP to this disease, he gains a -2 penalty to HT and IQ until healed above this threshold.

Traits: Appearance (Monstrous; Universal); Bad Smell; Cannot Learn; Carrier; Constriction Attack; Disturbing Voice; Divine Curse (Cure Disease at -8 or Remove Curse transforms the spawn of Kyuss into a normal zombie); Doesn’t Breathe; Doesn’t Eat or Drink; Doesn’t Sleep; Fragile (Unnatural); High Pain Threshold; Immunity to Metabolic Hazards; Immunity to Mind Control; Indomitable; Infravision; Injury Tolerance (No Blood, Unliving); No mental skills; No Sense of Smell/Taste; Regeneration (Regular); Sexless; Single-Minded; Social Stigma (Dead); Temperature Tolerance 10; Unaging; Unfazeable; Wealth (Dead Broke).
    Skills: Brawling-9; Innate Attack (Projectile)-9; Wrestling-9.
    Creature Type: Undead.
