Monsters: Kythons

Monsters: Kythons

As described in the Book of Vile Darkness, the kythons (not to be confused with the kytons) were created by a group of powerful fiends trapped on the Material Plane. The exact type of the fiends is not mentioned, but the fact that the kythons speak Infernal suggests that those fiends were devils. The kythons are basically zergs/xenomorphs/tyranids (much closer to the latter - they even grow organic weaponry). Just look at the illustrations! Mechanically, I decided to cut down on the energy immunities and resistances, because being immune to two types of energy and almost immune to the rest isn't very fun.

Kython Weaponry: The kythons grow their weapons and devices from eggs similar to those that spawn their young. Juvenile kythons rarely possess any kython weaponry, but if they do, choose one of the following abilities.
Acid Spitter: This handheld device requires one hand to use. It vaguely resembles a crossbow, but is covered in bulbous green membranes. It can be used no more than 10 times per hour. This is a ranged weapon that deals 1d+2 corrosion damage. Acc 3, Range 10/20, Bulk -2, DR 2. If disarmed, stolen, or otherwise taken away, it will not function for a non-kython wielder.
Bone Shard Crossbow: This handheld device requires one hand to use. It vaguely resembles a chitinous repeating crossbow. It can be used no more than 10 times per hour. This is a ranged weapon that deals 1 point of piercing damage, but carries the kython’s venom as a follow-up. Acc 3, Range 10/20, Bulk -2, DR 2. If disarmed, stolen, or otherwise taken away, it will not function for a non-kython wielder.
Boneblade: The kython wields a bone blade. It deals thrust 1d-1 cutting damage (KYOS: 1d-1 cutting), Reach C-1. The blade has has DR 4 and uses the Broadsword skill. If disarmed, stolen, or otherwise taken away, it will fall apart if picked up by a non-kython wielder.
Extra Armor: The kython has 1 more DR.
Mouth Launcher: This weapon, which attaches to the back of a kython’s mouth, looks like a worm with a sphincterlike mouth. The kython can perform an Attack maneuver with it in addition to any other attacks it makes during its turn. The mouth launcher deals thrust 1d-2 cutting (KYOS: 1d-1 cutting), Reach C. The kython can either nip and let go or hold on and grapple the victim in addition to injuring him. Either is an attack that takes full hit location penalties – not halved for grappling. Treat this attack as a bite for these purposes (see Teeth on page 115 of GURPS Martial Arts for details).
Mucus Pod: This gray and red membrane sac, filled with yellow fluid, attaches to a kython’s arm. When the kython makes a successful claw attack with that arm, the attack also sprays mucus out of a tube that runs from the sac to the claw. The victim becomes entangled as per Binding (p. B40) with effective ST 8. Alcohol completely dissolves this substance.
Phase Organ: This small fleshy pod fits upon the forehead of the kython, grafting into place permanently. It allows the kython to become insubstantial as per the Insubstantiality advantage (p. B62). While insubstantial, the kython does not disregard gravity. It must move across a horizontal or gently sloping (no Climbing roll needed) surface. Activating or deactivating this ability requires a Ready maneuver. Being insubstantial costs 1 FP per second. This is a magical ability.

Traits: Appearance (Monstrous); Bloodlust (12); Callous; Infravision; Immunity to Noxious Acidic Effects; Immunity to Noxious Cold Effects; Injury Tolerance (No Eyes); Internal Sealed (Acid-Resistant Only); Odious Racial Habit (Eats sapient beings); Restricted Diet (Carnivore); Sadism (12); Sealed (Acid-Resistant Only); Social Stigma (Monster); Vibration Sense (Air).
    Skills: Brawling-14; Broadsword-14.
    Creature Type: Aberration.

Sharp Claws (16): thrust 3d-1 cutting (KYOS: 4d cutting), Reach C-1.

Disruption Field: The kython slaymaster can raise or lower a disruption field in a 4-yard-radius area around itself with a Ready maneuver. The mana level in the area is lowered by one step, and all tasks based on normal vision or Infravision take a -2 penalty. The area can be spotted with normal vision or Infravision at +2. When the field is raised, the kython slaymaster has no Vibration Sense (Air).
Enhanced Defense: The kython slaymaster can take a Ready maneuver to enter or exit the enhanced defense mode. In this mode, the kython slaymaster has a -2 penalty to Per, but has a +2 bonus to all active defenses.
Kython Weaponry: The kythons grow their weapons and devices from eggs similar to those that spawn their young. Usually (1-5 on a 1d), kython slaymasters possess kython weaponry. If they do, choose up to two of the following abilities.
It deals thrust 3d+2 cutting damage (KYOS: 5d+1 cutting), Reach C-2. The blade has has DR 4 and uses the Broadsword skill. If disarmed, stolen, or otherwise taken away, it will fall apart if picked up by a non-kython wielder.
Extra Armor: The kython has 2 more DR.
Mouth Launcher: This weapon, which attaches to the back of a kython’s mouth, looks like a worm with a sphincterlike mouth. The kython can perform an Attack maneuver with it in addition to any other attacks it makes during its turn. The mouth launcher deals thrust 1d cutting (KYOS: 1d+1 cutting), Reach C.
B40) with effective ST 12.
