Alchemy: Some New Poisons

This post describes the conversions of poisons from Arms and Equipment Guide for D&D 3.0.

 

Aboleth Oil

A living victim that makes contact with aboleth oil, must make an immediate HT roll to resist. If they fail, 10 minutes later they lose their ability to breathe air and gain the ability to breathe water for margin of failure minutes. Being washed off with cool, fresh water during the onset period negates the effect.

Form: Contact Poison.

Cost: $690 (singular); $250 (5-batched).

Recipe: $69; 4 days; defaults to Poisons-3.

Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Advantage, Alternate Form (same template, but with Doesn’t Breathe (Gills; underwater only)); +150%; Contact Poison, -5%; Onset, 10 minutes, -10%; Terminal Condition, Cool, fresh water, -10%) [23].

  

Adlevine Extract

This poison is extracted from a tropical vine. A living victim who ingests the poison must make a HT roll after 10 minutes or suffer 1d-1 toxic damage. Every minute for 6 more cycles he must make another HT roll to resist or take the same amount of damage. After losing 1/2 HP to this poison, the victim gains a -4 penalty to IQ until he heals above this threshold.

Form: Ingested Poison.

Cost: $180 (singular); $65 (5-batched).

Recipe: $18; 1 day; defaults to Poisons-1.

Alforna

This is a quite weak herbal poison. A living victim must make an immediate HT roll or suffer 1d-2 fatigue damage.

Form: Follow-Up Poison.

Cost: $60 (singular); $20 (5-batched).

Recipe: $6; 1 day; defaults to Poisons-1.

Statistics: Fatigue Attack 1d-2 (Follow-Up Poison, -20%; Resistible, HT, -30%) [2].

 

Anemis

Anemis is a contact poison derived from a mineral. A living victim must make an immediate HT-1 roll or suffer 1d-2 toxic damage. Every minute for 8 more cycles he must make another HT-1 roll to resist or take the same amount of damage.  After losing 1/2 HP to this poison, the victim gains a -8 penalty to ST until he heals above this threshold.

Form: Contact Poison.

Cost: $210 (singular); $75 (5-batched).

Recipe: $21; 1 day; defaults to Poisons-1.

Statistics: Toxic Attack 1d-2 (Contact Poison, -5%; Cyclic, 1 minute, 8 cycles, Resistible, +160%; Resistible, HT-1, -25%; Symptoms, 1/2 HP, -8 ST, +80%) [7].

 

Brain Dust

This bitter-smelling dust causes the subjects to hallucinate. This poison flask can be thrown (range is STx3.5). Hitting a hard surface, it breaks, creating a cloud of poison gas in a 2-yard radius. The cloud persists for 10 seconds and may drift with the wind. Any creature that inhales the gas makes an HT roll to resist. On failure, the creature begins to hallucinate and gains a -2 penalty to IQ for margin of failure minutes.

Form: Grenade.

Cost: $1,080 (singular); $390 (5-batched).

Recipe: $108; 8 days; defaults to Poisons-4.

Cretel Leaf Residue

This poison is extracted from a jungle flower. A living victim who ingests the poison must make a HT-1 roll after 10 minutes or suffer 1d-1 toxic damage. Every hour for 3 more cycles he must make another HT-1 roll to resist or take the same amount of damage. After losing 1/2 HP to this poison, the victim gains a -3 penalty to HT until he heals above this threshold.

Form: Ingested Poison.

Cost: $60 (singular); $25 (5-batched).

Crippling Vine

A specific vine that only grows in Eskartar produced a weakening contact poison. This victim must make an HT roll or get a -3 penalty to ST and HT for 5 hours per point of margin of failure.

Form: Contact Poison.

Cost: $630 (singular); $225 (5-batched).

Recipe: $63; 3 days; defaults to Poisons-3.

Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Attribute Penalty, -3 to ST and -3 to HT, +30%; Contact Poison, -5%; Extended Duration, 100x, +80%) [21].

 

Culum Powder

This poison is extracted from a bark of northern tree. A living victim who ingests the poison must make a HT-1 roll after 10 minutes or suffer 1d-1 toxic damage. Every hour for 3 more cycles he must make another HT-1 roll to resist or take the same amount of damage. After losing 1/2 HP to this poison, the victim gains a -3 penalty to DX until he heals above this threshold.

Form: Ingested Poison.

After losing 1/2 HP to this poison, the victim gains a -3 penalty to DX and HT until he heals above this threshold.

This poison is extracted from a gray flower that grows in cold mountains. Roll vs. HT or suffer from a -4 penalty to DX for a half-hour. On a critical failure or a failure by 5 or more, the penalty is replaces with paralysis.

Form: Follow-Up Poison.

Cost: $570 (singular); $205 (5-batched).

Recipe: $57; 2 days; defaults to Poisons-2.

Haluroot

This poison is extracted from the roots of a plant that grows all over the world. Roll vs. HT or hallucinate (see p. B428) for a half-hour.

Form: Follow-Up Poison.

Cost: $510 (singular); $185 (5-batched).

Recipe: $51; 2 days; defaults to Poisons-2.

Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Fixed Duration, +0%; Extended Duration, 10x, +40%; Follow-Up Poison, -20%; Hallucinating, +50%) [17].

 

Horror Weed Extract

This poison is extracted from a plant that only grows in P’ktal. A living victim must make an HT roll after 1 minute or suffer 1d-1 toxic damage. Every minute for 5 more cycles he must make another HT roll to resist or take the same amount of damage. After losing 1/2 HP to this poison, the victim gains a -2 penalty to IQ and gains Fearfulness 2 until he heals above this threshold.

Form: Contact Poison.

Cost: $210 (singular); $75 (5-batched).

Lockjaw

This poison causes no damage. A living victim who ingests the poison must make an immediate HT roll or lose the ability to speak for 5 hours per point of margin of failure.

Form: Ingested Poison.

Mesmer Paste

This poison is extracted from a fungus. The victim must resist with HT or start hallucinating for 3 seconds per point of margin of failure.

Form: Contact Poison.

Cost: $360 (singular); $130 (5-batched).

Recipe: $36; 1 day; defaults to Poisons-2.

Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Contact Poison, -5%; Hallucinating, +50%; Reduced Duration, 1/20, -25%) [12].

  

Raeliss Smoke

This is a respiratory agent made from burnt fungi. This poison flask can be thrown (range is STx3.5). Hitting a hard surface, it breaks, creating a cloud of poison gas in a 2-yard radius. The cloud persists for 10 seconds and may drift with the wind. Any creature that inhales the gas makes an HT roll to resist. On failure, the creature becomes drunk for 1 minute.

Form: Grenade.

Cost: $900 (singular); $325 (5-batched).

Recipe: $900; 5 days; defaults to Poisons-3.

This poison is made from a plant that grows in hot jungles. A living victim must make an immediate HT-2 roll or suffer 1 toxic damage. Every seconds for 9 more cycles he must make another HT-2 roll to resist or take the same amount of damage. After losing 1/3 HP to this poison, the victim gets a -4 penalty to DX until he heals above this threshold.

Form: Follow-Up Poison.

Every hour for 3 more cycles he must make another HT-3 roll to resist or take the same amount of damage. After losing 1/2 HP to this poison, the victim becomes nauseated until he heals above this threshold.

Form: Ingested Poison.

This is a plant poison. A living victim must make an immediate HT-4 roll or suffer 1 toxic damage. After losing 1/3 HP to this poison, the victim gets a -2 penalty to IQ until he heals above this threshold.

Form: Follow-Up Poison.

Cost: $180 (singular); $65 (5-batched).

Any creature that inhales the gas makes an HT roll to resist. On failure, the creature gains a -4 penalty to DX and a -2 penalty to IQ for margin of failure minutes.

This mineral poison causes the subject to lose their sense of smell and taste. This poison flask can be thrown (range is STx3.5). Hitting a hard surface, it breaks, creating a cloud of poison gas in a 2-yard radius. The cloud persists for 10 seconds and may drift with the wind. Any creature that inhales the gas makes an HT roll to resist. On failure, the creature loses its sense of taste and smell for margin of failure minutes.

Form: Grenade.

Cost: $870 (singular); $315 (5-batched).

Recipe: $87; 5 days; defaults to Poisons-3.

Shreef Oil

This poison is extracted from a tropical plant. The victim must resist with HT or gain a -4 penalty to ST for margin of failure minutes.

Form: Follow-Up Poison.

Recipe: $30; 1 day; defaults to Poisons-1.

Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Attribute Penalty, ST-4, +20%; Follow-Up Poison, -20%) [10].

 

Sleeping Weed

This poison does little actual damage but may put the subject to sleep. Roll vs. HT or suffer from severe pain (see p. B428) for a half-hour. On a critical failure or a failure by 5 or more, the pain increases to terrible.

Form: Contact Poison.

Cost: $570 (singular); $205 (5-batched).

Recipe: $57; 2 days; defaults to Poisons-2.

Thever Fumes

This poison may blind the victim. This poison flask can be thrown (range is STx3.5). Hitting a hard surface, it breaks, creating a cloud of poison gas in a 2-yard radius. The cloud persists for 10 seconds and may drift with the wind. Any unsealed creature in the gas makes an HT roll to resist. On failure, the creature becomes permanently blind. Thever fumes can be created by heating thever paste.

Form: Grenade.

Cost: $1,770 (singular); $640 (5-batched).

Thever Paste

This poison does no actual damage but may blind the victim. Roll vs. HT or become permanently blind. If thever paste is heated, thever fumes are the result - the two poisons are derived from the same base compound.

Recipe: $195; 22 days; defaults to Poisons-7.

Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Contact Poison, -5%; Disadvantage, Blindness, +50%; Extended Duration, Permanent, +150%) [30 / 5 = 6] + Thever Fumes [59].

 

Vapid Leaf Extract

This poison does little actual damage but may put the subject into an euphoric state. Roll vs. HT or suffer from euphoria (see p. B428) for a half-hour.

Form: Follow-Up Poison.

Cost: $450 (singular); $160 (5-batched).

Recipe: $45; 2 days; defaults to Poisons-2.

Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Euphoria, +30%; Extended Duration, 10x, +40%; Fixed Duration, +0%; Follow-Up Poison, -20%) [15].

 

Wraith Sheen

This poison does little actual damage but may make the subject frail Roll vs. HT or gain a -4 penalty to HT for a half-hour.

Form: Contact Poison.
