Wizardry: Force Spells IV

Wizardry: Force Spells IV

Here we have the final three force spells. Shield creates a shield-like disk of force in front of you. Tenser's Floating Disk creates a moving telekinetic platform. Unseen Servant creates an invisible, mindless force that performs simple and repetitive tasks for you.

    Shield
    Keywords: Buff.
    Full Cost: 19 points for level 1 + 18 points/additional level.
    Casting Roll: Skill.
    Components: V, S.
    Cost: 1 FP.
    Casting Time: 1 second.
    Range: Self.
    Duration: 3 minutes.

This spell creates an invisible mobile disk of force that hovers in front of you. Just like normal shield, it provides a +1 bonus to all your active defenses per level of this spell, but only against attacks from the front and one of your sides, chosen upon casting this spell. Unlike an actual shield, this disk of force does not impede movement, does not occupy a hand, cannot be used to Block, and cannot be used to bash or perform a shield rush.
This disk of force has Cover DR of 25, and if it is penetrated, it fizzles out and gives you a cumulative -2 penalty to skill to cast Shield for 24 hours. The active defense bonus of Shield does not “stack” with a real shield, but if you have a real shield, the magical Shield hovers in front of it, so its Cover DR does stack and is applied first.
It is recommended to limit this spell to level 3.
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Accessibility, Self Only, -50%; Advantage, Shield 1, +180%; Costs Fatigue, 1 FP, -5%; Fixed Duration, +0%; Magical, -10%; Requires Gestures, -10%; Requires IQ Roll, -10%; Requires Magic Words, -10%) [19]. Note: Each level of “Shield” is Defense Bonus 1 (Directional, Front and Shield Side, -10%; Magical, -10%; Nuisance Effect, Does not stack with an actual shield, -10%; Visible, -10%) [18]. Additional levels add more levels of Shield (+180%) [+18].

    Tenser’s Floating Disk
    Keywords: None.
    Full Cost: 43 points.
    Casting Roll: Skill.
    Components: V, S.
Cost: 1 FP to cast, 1 FP to maintain.
    Casting Time: 1 minute.
    Range: 10 yards.
    Duration: Indefinite.

The caster creates a slightly concave, circular plane of force that follows him about and carries loads for him. The disk is 2 yards in diameter and 1 inch deep at its center. It has effective lifting ST 15. If used to transport a liquid, its capacity is 12 gallons. The disk floats approximately 1 yard above the ground at all times and remains level. It floats along horizontally within 10 yards and will accompany the caster at a rate of no more than his Basic Move every second. If not otherwise directed with a Concentrate maneuver, it maintains a constant interval of 1 yard between itself and the caster. The disk winks out of existence when the spell duration expires. The disk also winks out if the caster moves beyond its range or tries to take the disk more than 1 yard away from the surface beneath it. When the disk winks out, whatever it was supporting falls to the surface beneath it.
Statistics: Hydrokinesis (Magical, -10%) [1] + Telekinesis 15 (Area Effect, 2 yards, +50%; Costs Fatigue, 1 FP, -5%; Immediate Preparation Required, 1 minute, -30%; Independent, +40%; Magical, -10%; One Task, Carrying, -40%; Requires Gestures, -10%; Requires IQ Roll, -10%; Requires Magic Words, -10%; Visible, -20%) [42].

    Unseen Servant
    Keywords: None.
    Full Cost: 20 points.
    Casting Roll: Skill.
    Components: V, S.
Cost: 1 FP to cast, 1 FP to maintain.
    Casting Time: 1 minute.
    Range: 10 yards.
    Duration: Indefinite.

An Unseen Servant is an invisible, mindless, shapeless force that performs simple tasks at your command. It can run and fetch things, open unstuck doors, and hold chairs, as well as clean and mend. The servant can perform only one activity at a time, but it repeats the same activity over and over again if told to do so, thus allowing you to command it to clean the floor and then turn your attention elsewhere as long as you remain within range. It can open only normal doors, drawers, lids, and the like. It has an effective ST score of 10. It can trigger traps and such, but it can exert only 20 pounds of force, which is not enough to activate certain pressure plates and other devices. It can move at Move 2. It can perform DX-based skill checks using your DX as a default.
The servant cannot attack in any way; it is never allowed an attack roll. It cannot be killed, but it dissipates if it takes 6 points of damage from area attacks. (It gets no active defenses.) If you attempt to send it beyond the spell’s range (measured from your current position), the servant ceases to exist.
Statistics: Telekinesis 8 (Cannot Affect Self, -20%; Cannot Attack, -20%; Costs Fatigue, 1 FP, -5%; Independent, +40%; Lift Only, -20%; Magical, -10%; Requires Gestures, -10%; Requires IQ Roll, -10%; Requires Magic Words, -10%) [14] + Telekinesis 2 (Cannot Affect Self, -20%; Cannot Attack, -20%; Costs Fatigue, 1 FP, -5%; Independent, +40%; Magical, -10%; Requires Gestures, -10%; Requires IQ Roll, -10%; Requires Magic Words, -10%) [6].
