And here we have the earth mephit who has an ability to change its size and ST. Usually, I avoid such abilities like fire.

Even though a one-hex creature is big enough to block the cone, everyone in the hex where the cone stops is fully affected. If a cone passes between two adjacent creatures, then both are hit. The cone cannot be parried or blocked, but it can be dodged by diving for cover or retreating out of the affected area. If a creature does that, then those behind it may get affected by the cone normally.
Spell-Like Ability: The earth mephit possesses an innate ability that mimics a wizardly spell – Transmute Rock to Mud 8. Unlike the actual spell, this ability does not have verbal and somatic components, and the casting roll is made against IQ (9) instead of skill. This ability transforms up to 640 pounds of rock into mud. On average, a hex of rock weighs 112 pounds per inch of thickness, so this ability may affect one hex that is 5.7 inches deep or six continuous hexes nearly one inch deep to create a slippery surface.
Traits: Curious (12); Doesn’t Eat or Drink; Flight (Cannot Hover; Winged); Infravision; Limited Camouflage (Stone); Odious Racial Habit (Vulgar and annoying behavior); Regeneration (Fast; Accessibility, Only underground or buried up to its waist in earth); Unaging; Vulnerability (Sound, x2).
