Alternate Form: By taking 10 consecutive Ready maneuvers, the demon may shapeshift into any humanoid with SM+1 or smaller as per the Morph advantage (p. B84). The form always appears pitiful and helpless. Sample forms include an old crone, a limbless beggar, or a starving street urchin.
Whine (Alternative Abilities):
Despair: The dire whiner may pay 2 FP and take a Ready maneuver to emit a whine. Any creature that hears it must roll a Fright Check using the Despair table (Pyramid #3-92, p. 29). If a victim succeeds at his Fright Check, he will be unaffected by this ability for one hour.
Suggestion: The dire whiner may pay 2 FP and take a Concentrate maneuver to emit a whine. The dire whiner can affect any number of sapient creatures within 16 yards of it and can omit any creatures from the effect. Roll a Quick Contest of IQ vs. Will plus any Magic Resistance the subject has. The whine’s effects last for margin of victory minutes.
The demon can give a simple command to all subjects that failed to resist; see the Suggest skill (p. B191) for guidelines. Any order that goes against a subject’s values or sense of self-preservation triggers another resistance roll, possibly at a bonus. The suggestion only lasts as long as the spell lasts. The demon can only give the same command to the whole group. The subjects remember everything they did, but they are convinced that they chose to do so. They will react to behavior too bizarre to be rationalized by pushing it out of their mind and not thinking about it. Hypnotism, Psychology, and Telepathy can be used to eventually bring out the truth.
If the obtestu ties or loses, the subjects can sense coercion coming from them. In addition, the obtestu cannot try to affect them again within 24 hours.
