Monster/Racial Template: Fainil (Night Flyer)
Dragon Magazine #244 is a very interesting issue devoted to all things aerial. One of the new races described in that book is the fainil. The fainil are the result of drow-tanar'ri crossbreeding by a drow clan that was in need for warriors to fight the surface elves' winged allies. Thus, we get semi-demonic winged drow. Interestingly enough, the point cost ended up being suitable for player characters.

Pistol Crossbow (11; 13 when flying): thrust 1d impaling, Acc 1, x15/x20 (150/200), RoF 1, Shots 1(4). Usually carries 1d bolts poisoned with drow poison.
Darkness: By spending 2 FP, the fainil can project a zone of darkness that covers a 2-yard-radius area around himself. The zone of darkness decreases the illumination level by 3, imposing a -3 penalty on most tasks that rely on normal vision.
Light: The fainil can use this ability to illuminate a 2-yard-radius area around himself. This costs 1 FP per minute.
