Sorcery: Assorted Spells IX

Sorcery: Assorted Spells IX

GURPS Magical Styles: Horror Magic just came out, featuring four new spells. But three of them do not seem convertible to Sorcery. One of them (Order from Chaos) does seem convertible, but still would work better as a specialization of the Power Tapping skill from Pyramid #4-1 alongside with Sacrifice (I really liked the Power Tapping skill, although I have some questions and doubts about it). But aside from that one spell, let's make some new ones. Defenestrating Sphere is one of my favorite D&D spells that throws subjects out of windows. Mirrored Skin is a minor buff that helps against laser beams and sunbolts. Spark Erosion is a machining method turned into a weapon. Also, a corrosion surge attack.

    Defenestrating Sphere
    Keywords: Missile, Obvious.
    Full Cost: 15 points/level.
Casting Roll: None. Use Innate Attack (Projectile) to hit.
    Range: 100 yards.
    Duration: Instantaneous.

You launch a sphere of compressed air at the target. It does 4d knockback damage per level of this spell, causing no injury or blunt trauma. However, the knockback is always directed towards the closest window! If there is no windows available, then the target is knocked back normally. This spell has no 1/2D range.
Statistics: Crushing Attack 2d (Cosmic, Knockback directed towards the closest window, +100%; Double Knockback, +20%; Increased 1/2D, 10x, +15%; No Blunt Trauma, -20%; No Wounding, -50%; Sorcery, -15%) [15/level].

    Mirrored Skin
    Keywords: Buff.
    Full Cost: 25 points.
Casting Roll: None. Use Innate Attack (Gaze) to aim.
    Range: 100 yards.
    Duration: Three minutes.

This spell turns the subject’s skin into a mirror that reflects light-based attacks and even makes direct hits less powerful. The subject gains DR 2 and +1 Dodge against light-based attacks.
    Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Advantage, Mirrored Skin, +130%; Fixed Duration, +0%; Increased 1/2D, 10x, +15%; No Signature, +20%; Sorcery, -15%) [25]. Note: “Mirrored Skin” is DR 2 (Limited, Light, -40%; Magical, -10%) [5] + Enhanced Dodge 1 (Limited, Light, -40%; Magical, -10%) [8].

    Order from Chaos
    Keywords: None.
    Full Cost: 0.9 points/level.
Casting Roll: IQ. Does not cost FP on a successful casting.
    Range: Unlimited.
    Duration: Indefinite.

This spell attempts to harvest the energy released by someone else’s magical backfire. Casting this spell is a free action that can be done not on your turn when the caster witnesses another caster critically fail a casting. When in doubt about the magical backfire being obvious, make a Per-based Thaumatology roll.
The spell takes normal range penalties, but the subject is the miscast, not the caster.
Any success recovers energy points equal to margin of success, to a maximum of the cost of the miscast spell (not reduced for their high skill, if that is applicable to the magic system in use). Energy harvested is stored within an Energy Reserve (equal to the spells’ level) that is provided by this spell and can be used to use magical abilities. Tyhis energy drains away at a rate of one point per hour. This spell is practically useless unless the caster can have at least two active spells simultaneously.
Ordinary failure recovers no energy and costs 1 FP. Critical failure means the other caster’s critical failure also affects the caster of Order from Chaos.
Statistics: Energy Reserve (Magical; Special Recharge, -70%) [0.9/level]. Note: This variant of Special Recharge requires an IQ roll, witnessing a critical failure, but does not require any extra advantages.

    Spark Erosion
    Keywords: Obvious.
    Full Cost: 7 points/level.
Casting Roll: None. Use unarmed combat skill or DX to hit.
    Range: Touch.
    Duration: Instantaneous.

This spell charges the caster’s hand with a powerful electric charge. Touching the subject deals 1d corrosion surge damage to it, as matter erodes away.
Statistics: Corrosion Attack 1d (Melee Attack, Reach C, Cannot Parry, -35%; Sorcery, -15%; Surge, +20%) [7/level].
