D&D has several non-standard elementals, and probably the least known of them is th ectoplasm elemental that is found in one of the Mind's Eye articles. Basically, this is an engulfing acidic water elemental that is a bit thicker and thus Homogenous instead of Diffuse.

Acid Touch: Anything that touches the ectoplasm elemental takes 1 point of corrosion damage.
Engulf: The ectoplasm elemental can try to engulf a grabbed opponent of its SM or smaller. To accomplish that, it must first successfully grapple. On the next turn, and each successive turn, roll a Quick Contest: the ectoplasm elemental’s ST vs. the victim’s ST or HT, whichever is higher. If the ectoplasm elemental wins, the victim takes damage equal to the ectoplasm elemental’s margin of victory and is engulfed; otherwise, he takes no damage. Treath being engulfed as pinned (p. B370). This pin is completely hands free. In addition to taking the normal constriction damage, the engulfed victim also takes 1 corrosion damage per second. Victims with abilities such as Innate Attack and Spines can hit the ectoplasm elemental automatically while swallowed. The ectoplasm elemental gets no active defense against internal attacks. The victim can escape the pin as usual, climbing out of the ectoplasm elemental’s body.
