Ultra-Tech: Flight Cybernetics
Cybernetics in GURPS Ultra-Tech and Pyramid articles does not have anything that allows flight. In this post, I stat up two enhancements based on personal aerial transports from Orion's Arm.
Integrated Paracopter (TL10)
This
contraption is implanted into the recipient’s back, consisting of a harness that
contains an expanse of fancloth. If the fancloth is crippled in flight, the
flier rolls against Aerobatics skill (or default) to land safely. Treat wings
as arms for the purpose of targeting and crippling. Flight move is Basic Speed
x 2 (drop all fractions). The flier can
hover.
Availability: Major
procedure. $22,000. LC 3.
Statistics: Flight
(Small Wings, -10%; Temporary Disadvantages, Electrical, -20%, and Maintenance,
1 person, weekly, -5%) [26].
Integrated Wing Pack (TL10)
This
contraption is implanted into the recipient’s back, consisting of a power unit
and a pair of highly folded wings that are formed from multiple overlapping
plates of lightweight smart extensible matter. The wingspan for a human equals
to at least twice the recipient’s height. Typically, these are used to glide,
but in order to gain altitude, the wings may flex away from each other
revealing fancloth that allows lift. In order to take off, land, or maneuver, the
recipient must have an open area with a radius equal to their wingspan in all
directions. If the wings are bound, or if a wing is crippled, the recipient
cannot fly. Treat wings as arms for the purpose of targeting and crippling. The
recipient must always move at least 1/4 of their top airspeed (round up) when
flying. Flight move is Basic Speed x 2 (drop all fractions), but the top speed
is 16 times that.
Availability: Major
procedure. $60,000. LC 3.
Statistics: Enhanced
Move 4 (Air; Temporary Disadvantages, Electrical, -20%, and Maintenance, 1
person, weekly, -5%) [60] + Flight (Cannot Hover, -15%; Temporary
Disadvantages, Electrical, -20%, and Maintenance, 1 person, weekly, -5%;
Winged, -25%) [14].
Holy crap, almost forgot about Orion's Arm. Haven't been to that site in a hot minute!
ReplyDeleteWhile I like you're D&D work, I love seeing you tackle Ultra-Tech topics. Cybernetics haven't been something I have toppled yet... heck I haven't seen to many other blogs look into it. Might have to change that in the future (at lest once I get some my back catalog cleared out and I can think of a creative angle to tackle like you did heh).
Thanks! That means a lot to me. I am enjoying your blog a lot and believe that Ultra-Tech topics do not get as much love as they should.
