Monsters/Lenses: Strange Bedfellows

Dragon Magazine #313 has an article that details several half-[monster] templates. Some of them were later updated and reprinted in the main product line (half-ogre in the Savage Species and then Races of Destiny, half-janni in Sandstorm), but the rest were left in the magazine. Let's convert them for those who want to play a real special snowflake.

    Alternate Form: By taking 10 consecutive Ready maneuvers, the half-doppelganger may assume one of three humanoid forms. These three forms are in addition to his natural form. They may be that of any SM-2 to SM+0 humanoid, but once a form is chosen, it permanently becomes one of the half-doppelganger’s three alternate choices. For example, if a half-doppelganger learns to take the shape of a female halfling, male elf, and male orc, those three forms are his alternate forms, and he may not later choose the form of a female gnome. All these alternate forms should be no more expensive than 17 points. Otherwise, add 0.9 of the point difference between the most expensive form cost and 17 to the template cost. This ability functions like the Alternate Form advantage (p. B84).

    Elemental Endurance: The half-janni can adapt to any environment on any Elemental Plane. The transformation takes 10 seconds, during which time the half-janni is unable to take any external action and may suffer harm from hostile conditions. This activates automatically on exposure to a different environment, but the half-janni can delay adaptation by making a Will roll once per minute (repeated rolls are at -2 if he suffers injury, or -5 if the injury exceeds his HP). His body may undergo visible changes in the process – including acquiring new organs such as gills. The half-janni is not protected against Innate Attacks or weapons with comparable effects, or against sudden, intense changes such as collisions, explosions, explosive decompression, or fires.
