Treasure: I-Items

Treasure: I-Items

No, I'm not stuttering. This post will have some items from the Dungeon Master's Guide for D&D 3.5 that start with an "I". Instant fortress was quite a challenge to stat up. And who doesn't like the ioun stones?

NEW FORM MULTIPLIERS FOR SORCERY ITEMS

Ioun Stone (x0.35)
DR 1 (-20%); SM-8 (-5%); easily snatched with an unopposed DX roll (-40%).

NEW ITEMS

Instant Fortress

Instant Fortress – as a metatronic generator (using Pyramid 3-46)
This small metal cube can be thrown up to STx3.5 yards. When a command word is spoken, it grows to form a tower 6 yards square and 10 yards high, with arrow slits on all sides and a crenellated battlement atop it. The metal walls extend 3 yards into the ground, rooting it to the spot and preventing it from being tipped over. The fortress has a small door that opens only at the command of the owner of the fortress. Maintaining the fortress costs 1 FP per hour.
The walls of instant fortress have DR 30 and HP 5. The DR is semi-ablative - every 10 points of basic damage rolled removes one point of DR, regardless of whether the attack penetrates DR.
The fortress springs up in just 4 seconds, with the door facing the device’s owner. The door opens and closes instantly at his command. People and creatures nearby (except the owner) must be careful not to be caught by the fortress’s sudden growth. Anyone so caught must make a successful DX roll or take 1d-1 crushing damage and get knocked prone.
The fortress is deactivated by speaking a command word (different from the one used to activate it). It cannot be deactivated unless it is empty.
            Statistics: Crushing Attack 10d (Apparatus, +0%; Area Effect, 128 yards, +350%; Cosmic, Door, +50%; Extended Duration, Permanent, Until deactivated, +150%; Increased 1/2D, x10, +15%; Increased Range, x3.5, +20%; Limited Use, 1 use (1 shot), Slow Reload, -25%; Magical, -10%; Muscle-Powered Range, -10%; Nuisance Effect, Static Form, -5%; Persistent, +40%; Requires a command word, -10%; Semi-Ablative, -20%; Takes Extra Time 2, -20%; Wall, Shapeable, +60%) [343].
            TL3 Cost: 2 x 343 x $175 = $120,050.
TL8 Cost: 2 x 343 x $3,500 = $2,401,000.

Iron Bands of Binding

Iron Bands of Binding – as an enchanted item (using Sorcery)
When initially discovered, this very potent item appears to be a 3-inch-diameter rusty iron sphere with bandings on the globe. When the proper command word is spoken and the spherical iron device is hurled at an opponent (throwing range is STx3.5 yards), the bands expand and then contract to bind the target creature on hit as Binding with ST 20 (p. B40). These bonds pin the target. He cannot move his limbs but can speak; his only options are to use purely mental abilities, to attack the bonds with an Innate Attack, or to try to break free using ST (not Escape skill). If he tries to break free and fails, he is only allowed a repeated attempt every 10 seconds – and on a 17 or 18, he becomes so entangled that he cannot escape on his own! Should the bonds be destroyed, they lose their magical abilities. The bonds may be transformed back into their spherical form by speaking a proper command word. Iron bands of binding are usable once per day.
            Statistics: Binding 20 (Engulfing, Can speak, +50%; Increased 1/2D, x10, +15%; Increased Range, x3.5, +20%; Limited Use, 1/day, -40%; Magical, -10%; Muscle-Powered Range, -10%; Nuisance Effect, Destroyed if broken, -10%; One-Shot, -10%; Terminal Condition, Command word, -10%) [38]. Gem, x0.4; 16 EP.

TL8 Price: 2 x ($2,000 + 16 x $1,180) = $41,760.

Ioun Stone (Clear Spindle)

Ioun Stone (Clear Spindle) – as an enchanted item (using Sorcery)
These crystalline stones always float in the air and must be within 3 feet of their owner to be of any use. When a character first acquires a stone, she must hold it and then release it, whereupon it takes up a circling orbit 1d/2 feet from her head. Thereafter, a stone must be grasped or netted to separate it from its owner. The owner may voluntarily seize and stow a stone (to keep it safe while she is sleeping, for example), but she loses the benefits of the stone during that time. Ioun stones have DR 1, 3 hit points, and SM-8. An enemy can snatch one with an unopposed DX roll. Each ioun stone drains 1 FP per hour.
The clear spindle sustains the creature without food or water.
Statistics: Doesn’t Eat or Drink (Magical, -10%) [9]. Usually On. Ioun Stone, x0.35; 4 EP.
            TL3 Price: 2 x ($30 + 4 x $320) = $2,620.

Ioun Stone (Iridescent Spindle) – as a metatronic generator (using Pyramid 3-46)
The iridescent spindle sustains the creature without air.
            Statistics: Doesn’t Breathe (Apparatus, +0%; Magical, -10%) [18].
            TL3 Cost: 2 x 18 x $175 = $6,300.
TL8 Cost: 2 x 18 x $3,500 = $126,000.
