Magic: Gravity College

Magic: Gravity College

Gravity manipulation is barely covered in GURPS Magic, so I decided make a new Gravity college with some appropriate spells from the Movement college. Gravity mages may be very useful in settings with space travel, but in other settings usefulness of this college is determined by the popularity of the college, because the spells manipulate gravitational anomalies that can only me created by other gravity mages. This is my first serious attempt at creating new Magic spells, using existing spells as the guidelines, as well as the guidelines in Magic, so I'm not sure if I did a good job.

Dispel Gravity
Area

Dispels gravity in the area of effect. See Different Gravity (B35) for details on zero gravity. This may trigger space sickness (B434).
Duration: 1 minute.
Base cost: 3 to cast. Half that to maintain. Making the effect permanent costs 100 times as much.
Time to cast: 1 minute.
Prerequisites: Magery 1, Increase Gravity, Reduce Gravity.

Gravity Crush (VH)
Regular; Resisted by HT

The caster crushes or vibrates internal organs or components of the subject with a focused gravity field. The subject takes 1d crushing damage with No Knockback modifier per 2 points of energy in the spell. Armor does not protect.
Cost: 2 to 6.
Prerequisite: Magery 2, Increase Gravity.

Staff or wand. Usable only by mages. Energy cost to create: 2500.

Gravity Push
Regular; Resisted by HT

The caster creates a gravitational wave that pushes the target in the specified direction (even upwards!). The target is dealt 2d of knockback damage per 2 points of energy in this spell.
Cost: 2 to 6.
Prerequisite: Magery 1, Increase Gravity.

Gravity Tolerance
Regular

The subject can function under a wider range of gravities. For a normal human, the penalties for non-native gravity accrue in increments of 0.2G; see Different Gravity (B35). This spell increases the increment.
Duration: 1 hour.
Cost: 2 for an increment of 0.3G, 4 for an increment of 0.5G, 5 for an increment of 1G, 7 for an increment of 5G, and 9 for an increment of 10G. Half that to maintain.
Prerequisite: Dispel Gravity.

Item
Jewelry; only affects the wearer. Energy cost to create: 100 for an increment of 0.3G, 200 for an increment of 0.5G, 300 for an increment of 1G, 400 for an increment of 5G, and 600 for an increment of 10G.

Increase Gravity
Area

Increases gravity in the area of effect. See Different Gravity, B350 for effects.
Duration: 1 hour.
Base cost: 2 per 0.1G of increase to cast. Half that to maintain. Making the effect permanent costs 100 times as much.
Time to cast: 1 minute.
Prerequisites: Magery 1, Increase Burden.

Mass Distortion (VH)
Regular; Resisted by HT

The caster drastically increases the subject’s mass for a moment without strengthening its bones. The subject takes 2d crushing damage with No Knockback modifier. Armor does not protect. In addition, the subject instantly falls down. Targets with Injury Tolerance (Diffuse, Homogenous, Unbreakable Bones, or Unliving) are unaffected.
Cost: 5.
Prerequisite: Magery 2, Gravity Crush.

Measure Gravity
Information

Tells the caster the gravity that is affecting him in Gs and the direction of it.
Cost: 1.

Item
Jewelry that lets the wearer know the gravity strength and direction whenever he wants. Energy cost to create: 250.

Redirect Gravity
Area

Changes the direction of gravity in the area of effect. This way the caster can make everything in the area fall upwards, sideways, or reverse an ongoing Reverse Gravity spell.
Duration: 1 minute.
Base cost: 6 to cast, 3 to maintain. Making the effect permanent costs 100 times as much.
Time to cast: 1 minute.
Prerequisites: Magery 2, Reverse Gravity.

Reduce Gravity
Area

Reduces gravity in the area of effect. See Different Gravity, B350 for effects.
Duration: 1 hour.
Base cost: 2 per 0.1G of reduction to cast. Half that to maintain. Making the effect permanent costs 100 times as much.
Time to cast: 1 minute.
Prerequisites: Magery 1, Lighten Burden.

Reverse Gravity
Area

Reverses the direction of gravity in the area of effect. Usually this means that everything in the area will “fall” upwards, then hover at the border of the area (4 yards up), and then fall when the spell ends. This may trigger space sickness (B434).
Duration: 1 minute.
Base cost: 6 to cast, 3 to maintain. Making the effect permanent costs 100 times as much.
Time to cast: 1 minute.
Prerequisites: Magery 2, Dispel Gravity.

Resist Gravity
Regular

The subject gains Damage Resistance against gravity-based attacks, such as the Gravity Crush spell or the graviton beams (UT129).
Duration: 1 hour.
Cost: 2 per point of Damage Resistance. Half that to maintain.
Prerequisite: Reduce Gravity.

Jewelry; only affects the wearer. Energy cost to create: 150 for a point of Damage Resistance.

See Gravity
Regular

Makes all gravitational anomalies, such as areas of the Increase Gravity, Pull, Repel spells, and other areas of gravity different from your native gravity, visible in the subject’s field of vision. Each such anomaly glows in proportion to its activity, if its area can be seen with your normal vision.
Duration: 1 minute.
Cost: 3 to cast, 2 to maintain.

Seek Gravity
Information

Identifies the direction and approximate distance of the nearest source of anomalous gravity of any sort. The caster can also specify that he is looking for a specific sort of gravity (1G, not 1G, higher than local, directional, etc.). Any known gravitational anomalies may be excluded if the mage specifies them before casting. Use the long-distance modifiers (GURPS Magic, p. 14).
Cost: 3.
Time to cast: 10 seconds.
Prerequisite: See Gravity.

Item
A wand or stick that will point in the direction sought. Energy cost to create: 60.

Selective Gravity
Area

This spell can be used with any natural or magically created gravitational anomaly. It lets the caster to “program” the anomaly to affect only a specific group of subjects or to exclude a group of targets. All this is done with no further concentration on the caster’s part; it does not count as a separate spell “on.” For example, this spell can be cast on an area affected by the Increase Gravity spell to make it affect only dwarves, or to exclude the caster from the effect. You cannot base the criteria on anything non-obvious. For example, you cannot tell the anomaly to affect only your enemies, because it does not know who is your enemy and who is not.
Duration: As long as the anomaly lasts.
Base cost: 2. Does not require maintenance.
Time to cast: 2 seconds.
Prerequisites: Increase Gravity or Reduce Gravity.
