Pantheon: Warrior Gods

Pantheon: Warrior Gods

Complete Warrior for D&D 3.5 describes a pantheon of warrior gods for martially focused games. The book provides only barebones descriptions. Let's adapt them to GURPS, so there's more variery among the warpriests.

Altua

Lesser deity
Alignment: Lawful Good
Symbol: scroll with a sword
Home plane: Celestia
Portfolio: honor, nobility, war
Domain (-30%): making and breaking spells, communication and empathy spells
Worshipers: knights, paladins, monks

The deity of honor and nobility, Altua guards the Sacred Tenets of Warfare by which all civilized races engage in battle.

Syreth

Lesser deity
Alignment: Neutral Good
Symbol: triangular blue shield
Home plane: Elysium
Portfolio: protection, community
Domain (-40%): protection and warning spells
Worshipers: fighters, rangers, guardians

Also known as the Guardian, Syreth protects those in need.

Valkar

Lesser deity
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Symbol: hand holding a sword and casting a shadow
Home plane: Arborea
Portfolio: courage
Domain (-40%): protection and warning spells
Worshipers: barbarians, bards, fighters, rogues

The deity of courage, Valkar is a favorite of good barbarians. He rewards bravery in battle, but can be fickle to those who choose discretion over valor.

Halmyr

Lesser deity
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Symbol: helmet in front of a sun
Home plane: Mechanus
Portfolio: strategy, skill
Domain (-30%): communication and empathy spells, knowledge spells
Worshipers: generals, warlords

The deity of strategy and skill in warfare, Halmyr is patient and thoughtful in all things. He looks kindly upon those who use planning and forethought in their endeavors. Many generals and warlords offer up a prayer to Halmyr on the evening before a battle.

Lyris

Lesser deity
Alignment: Neutral
Symbol: hand balancing a knife on a finger
Home plane: Outlands
Portfolio: victory, fate
Domain (-40%): knowledge spells, fate spells
Worshipers: warriors

As the deity of both victory and fate, Lyris has two aspects. To the bold, she symbolizes the inevitability of victory. Others see her as controlling the great wheel of fate, which promises that each person shall receive his or her just rewards (or punishments) in the afterlife.

Konkresh

Lesser deity
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Symbol: shattered shield
Home plane: Acheron
Portfolio: brute force
Domain (-40%): spells that improve physical characteristics, breaking spells
Worshipers: barbarians, druids that favor savagery

The deity of brute force, Konkresh is the brother of Halmyr. The two could not be more diametrically opposed in their outlook – where Halmyr is patient, Konkresh is rash; Halmyr rewards skill, while Konkresh believes only in strength.

Typhos

Lesser deity
Alignment: Lawful Evil
Symbol: hand holding a black whip
Home plane: Baator
Portfolio: tyranny
Domain (-30%): mind control spells, protection and warning spells
Worshipers: evil fighters, blackguards, enchanters

The deity of tyranny, Typhos is the sworn enemy of all freedom-loving people. He is the patron of those who believe that the best method of rulership is total domination.

Sulerain

Lesser deity
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Symbol: black eye weeping blood
Home plane: Hades
Portfolio: slaughter
Domain (-40%): necromantic spells
Worshipers: assassins, necromancers

The deity of death and slaughter, Sulerain is often called the Grim Lady. She is pleased only by destruction and loss of life – the greater the loss, the better.

Nadirech

Lesser deity
Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Symbol: gold bracelet encrusted with gems
Home plane: Abyss
Portfolio: cowardice, trickery
Domain (-40%): illusion spells, fate spells
Worshipers: rogues

Also known as the Shunned One, Nadirech is called the deity of cowardice by some and the god of trickery and luck by others. Followers of Valkar deride Nadirech’s worshipers for their lack of valor, while the faithful of Lyris dispute Nadirech’s clain to be a deity of luck.
