How to: Spirit Shaman Spellcasting

How to: Spirit Shaman Spellcasting

Complete Divine also has another class - the spirit shaman. It is very different from the Oriental Adventures shaman (even though their spell lists seem similar). I decided to make the spirit shaman more specialized on actual spirits, while the normal shaman is more of a druid-type spellcaster.

Spirit Shaman Spellcasting
- Use Sorcery as the system.
- We will replace the Magical, -10% power modifier of Sorcerous Empowerment and spells with Pact, -10%. This limitation requires you to take a -10-point disadvantage that will represent your reverence of the spirits. This might be a major Vow, Disciplines of Faith, or Code of Honor. Should you transgress, your powers will be instantly revoked, but you can get them back by completing a minor quest. This does not change the cost of Sorcerous Empowerment. Advantages granted by Buff spells should instead get the Spirit Shaman, +0% power modifier, as they do not depend on spirit reverence.
- Apply Limited Scope, Spirit, -40% to Sorcerous Empowerment. Basically, this covers necromantic spells and other spells related to spirits. This makes Sorcerous Empowerment (Spirit Shaman) cost 12 points for level 1 + 6 points/additional level.
- When rolling a critical failure on a casting roll, use the Spirit-Oriented Magic Table (GURPS Thaumatology, p. 260).
- Spirit shaman spells are identified with Religious Ritual (Spirit).
