Equipment: PHB Adventuring Gear in GURPS

Equipment: PHB Adventuring Gear in GURPS

Player's Handbook for D&D 3.5 has a relatively long list of various adventuring gear pieces (most of which become irrelevant past the first few levels). I'll just go through the list and try to find analogs in GURPS.

Abbreviations: B - Basic Set, LT - Low-Tech, DF# - Dungeon Fantasy #.

Backpack
Backpacks can be found on B288 and DF1-23.

Bedroll
This is the blanket that can be found on B288 and DF1-23.

Blanket, Winter
This is the sleeping fur that can be found on B288 and DF1-23.

Caltrops
Caltrops can be found on DF1-25.

Candle
Candles can be found on B288, DF1-24, and LT33. DF and LT have two kinds - tallow and beeswax, while the Basic Set only has the tallow candles. Also, they all are priced differently. A tallow candle costs $5 in the Basic Set and LT, but only $0.5 in DF. Also, tallow candles are TL1 in BS, but TL2 in LT. Beeswax candle costs $5 in DF, but $9 in LT. Also, beeswax candle burns for 24 hours in DF, but for 12 hours in LT. Consult with your GM as to what candles are to be used.

Case, Map or Scroll
Scroll cases can be found on DF4-12.

Chain
Steel chain can be found on DF8-24.

Crowbar
A 3' crowbar can be found on B289 and DF1-24. DF8-25 has a 5' crowbar too, but does not specify what's the difference aside from weight and cost.

Flask
PHB says that these can be ceramic, glass, or metal, and can hold a pint of liquid. B288 has a ceramic bottle that holds a quart of liquid. DF1-24 has a bottle that hold a quart of liquid and has the same statistics as the one from the Basic Set, so it is safe to assume that this one is ceramic as well. The same page also has a small bottle that holds a pint of liquid. More detailed rules on containers can be found on LT34.

Flint and Steel
B288 says that personal basics contain flint and steel, providing no cost for them as a separate item. However, it appears as the tinderbox on DF8-15.

Grappling Hook
The grapnel appears at TL5, according to B288. However, it appears on DF1-25 with a quadrupled price. (DF is TL3, so it makes sense.) LT125, however, shifts them to TL1 and gives more detailed rules.

Hammer
Being a hammer that is used to hammer pitons into walls, it appears as part of the climbing gear on B288. As a separate item, it appears on LT125 under Pitons.

Ink
Ink (both black and colored) can be found on LT46.

Inkpen
Inkpens can be found on LT46.

Jug, Clay
See Flask above.

Ladder, 10-foot
Wooden ladders can be found on DF1-24 and LT125. DF1 has a 10' ladder, but LT provides guidelines for ladders of other lengths. However, prices and weights do not match, so consult your GM.

Lamp, Common
This is the TL0 oil lamp from LT33.

Lantern, Bullseye
This is the bull's-eye lantern from DF1-26. I wonder if both spellings are correct.

Lantern, Hooded
This is the covered lantern from LT33.

Lock
Portable padlocks can be found on DF1-26 and LT121. The latter has much more detailed rules.

Manacles and Manacles, Masterwork
Iron shackles can be found on DF1-26 and LT130. DF ones cost $200, while the LT ones cost $50. Otherwise, they seem identical. Consult your GM!

Magnifying Glass
This is the burning glass from DF1-26, it seems.

Mirror, Small Steel
I failed to find any steel mirror statistics in GURPS, only their mentions. However, DF1-26 has a glass covered bronze or lead hand mirror.

Oil
Oil can be found on B288 and DF1-24.

Paper
Paper costs $20 per 1 lb. (20 sheets) on DF1-24. Paper costs $6 per 1 lb. (100 sheets) on LT46. Consult your GM!

Parchment
Parchment can be found on LT46.

Piton
Pitons on B288 and DF1-24 cost $1 and weigh 0.5 lb. Pitons from LT125 cost $4 and weight 0.75 lb. Again, consult your GM!

Pole, 10-foot
10-foot poles (and 6-foot poles) can be found on B288 and DF1-24.

Pouch, Belt
Pouches and purses can be found on B288. More detailed rules on containers can be found on LT34.

Ram, Portable
Portable ram can be found on DF1-26.

Rations, Trail
Traveler's rations can be found on B288 and DF1-23.

Rope, Hempen
Various ropes can be found on B288 and DF1-24. Material is not specified. However, LT23-24 has a section on ropes of various materials, including hemp and silk.

Rope, Silk
See Rope, Hempen above.

Sack
Sacks can be found on DF1-24. More detailed rules on containers can be found on LT34.

Scale, Merchant's
Balances and weights can be found on B288, DF1-24. LT44 has more detailed rules on that.

Signet Ring
Signet rings can be found on LT46.

Sledge
This is the mallet from DF1-24.

Spyglass
There are telescopes in both DF1 and Basic Set, but the actual spyglass appears only on LT42, being a TL4 item.

Tent
Tents can be found on B288, DF1-23, and LT32.

Torch
Torches can be found on B288, DF1-24, and LT33. LT33 also has a more expensive, improved torch.

Vial
The closest container is the crystal vial that can be found on DF1-24. More detailed rules on containers can be found on LT34.

Water Clock
This is the miniature clepsydra from LT45.

Waterskin
Waterskins can be found on B288 and DF1-23.
