How to: Cleric Abilities
This post will detail my way of converting cleric's class abilities from D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder.
Aura: You are probably aware of the alignment problem in D&D. Generally speaking, alignments are not a thing in GURPS. In my games, I use "alignment" as a way to determine the creature/item's "cosmic position", not a moral code. Spells, such as Seek (Ethical Category), still are useful, but they detect this planar alignment, not a moral disposition of a person. Mundane creatures do not have a planar alignment, but extraplanar creatures from the Outer Planes do. Thus, Seek Evil would detect the following:
- Divine spellcasters with abilities granted by an evil deity;
- Warlocks with abilities granted by an archfiend;
- Enchanted items crafted by such individuals, if the items in question allow using such abilities;
- Spells and other effects of such abilities;
- Evil outsiders (demons, devils, yugoloths, demodands, etc.);
- Meldshapers aligned with metaphysical evil, even if they do not have any active soulmelds.
- Replace Sorcerous Empowerment with Clerical Empowerment. Use the guidelines from that post to determine the "domain" scope limitation. There's also a series of posts tagged with "pantheon" that covers most of the setting-independent D&D deities. These domain limitations make clerics very different from each other (and from how they are portrayed in D&D/PF, where the domains are just a minor additional thing).
- Each learned or improvised spell has a Hard skill attached to them (see Skill for Everyone, GURPS Powers, p. 162). This is accomplished by adding the Requires IQ Roll, -10% limitation to all spells that do not require an IQ roll by default, or by adding Based on IQ, Own Roll, +20% to spells that have a casting roll based on another attribute. The caster can cast it at a default (IQ-6).
- Casting rolls are modified as per Petition Roll Modifiers (GURPS Powers: Divine Favor, p. 5), but with no -2 for one second prayers and -1 for successful general prayers.
- Aside from the casting roll, clerical spells should cost at least 1 FP, require prayer, and optionally require gestures and/or a holy symbol (as such, Costs Fatigue, 1 FP, -5%, Divine, -10% and Requires Magic Words, -10% are required limitations). Spells may have any casting time.
- Advantages granted by divine Buff spells should have the Divine, +0% modifier, because they do not require the subject to act according to the deity’s code of conduct, but still depend on sanctity.
- Trading Fatigue for Skill (GURPS Powers, p. 161) is available.
- Weak Latency (Divine) perk exists, and clerics are able to combine their powers as per Combining Powers (GURPS Powers, pp. 170-172). Unlike arcane spellcasters, clerics require a full minute of ritual movements and concentration to link up, but they get to roll against the higher of IQ and Religious Ritual to do so. Note that while clerics can combine powers with other appropriate divine spellcasters, non-clerics can only do so if a group contains at least one cleric.
- When rolling a critical failure on a casting roll, use the “Clerical” Table (GURPS Thaumatology, p. 257), unless channeled powers of an archfiend – in that case use the Diabolic/Horrific Table (GURPS Thaumatology, p. 258).
Proxy [26]
The character forms a closer link with their patron deity. Whenever they are confronted with a moral decision, they know with 100% certainity what action will and will not violate the dogma of their patron deity, and how they should act in accordance with the dogma.
Statistics: Intuition (Aspected, Moral decisions, -20%; Divine, -10%; Inspired, +100%) [26].
Channel Energy: There is nothing like positive enegry or negative energy damage in GURPS, so this is going to be more tricky. I do not see any reason why these abilities shouldn't be just clerical spells. I will try to cover variant channeling abilities from the Pathfiner RPG as well. However, if you are trying to restrict magical healing in your games (like I do), I would suggest letting only clerics of deities of healing channel positive energy and only clerics of deities of death and undeath channel negative energy. Otherwise, you are risking turning the clerics into generic healers. For variant channelings it might be appropriate to just remove the healing part. I will stat them up as normal Sorcery spells. To "clerify" them, just replace Sorcery, -15% with Divine, -10% and Costs Fatigue, 1 FP, -5%, and add Requires Magic Words, -10% and Based on IQ, Own Roll, +20%. This increases the final cost by 1. Then replace Magical, -10% for the Regeneration advantage with Divine, +0%. This increases the final cost by 5 (for a total of 6).
Next, I will tackle the variant channeling. In most cases, I will remove the regenerative aspect and keep the thematic aspect (but you can combine both) and rename the spells to Blessing of (Domain) and Curse of (Domain). These will be statted as normal Sorcery spells, but "clerifying" them is easy (see above).
There's also the option to turn undead. Just use the existing Turn Zombie spell or the True Faith advantage.

damage, regardless of DR, insubstantiality, etc. When the improved (128-point)
version is cast, there is an additional effect - undead creatures in this area
instead are imbued with healing energies, regenerating 1 HP per minute for 3
minutes. Casting this spell again does not improve the healing rate, only
resetting the duration. If a particular undead subject possesses DR with no
Tough Skin limitation, your casting roll is penalized by their DR. Calculate effective
DR for this penalty according to the rules for Large-Area Injury (p. B400).
Statistics: Crushing
Attack 2d (Accessibility, Only on living creatures, -10%; Affects
Insubstantial, +20%; Area Effect, 4 yards, +100%; Cosmic, Irresistible Attack,
+300%; Emanation, -20%; No Knockback, -10%; Sorcery, -15%) [47]. As a special
