Alchemy: Desert Poisons and Diseases
This post converts poisons and diseases from Sandstorm for D&D 3.5.
POISONS
Crystal Scorpion Poison
Distilled from the venom of monstrous scorpions,
this alchemically treated poison is often sought out by warlords or assassins
who want to see a victim suffer for days. The process of treating the venom
renders it translucent, but with the refractive qualities of a perfect prism
when held up to the light in a clear container. This victim must make an HT
roll or be paralyzed for 5 hours per point of margin of failure.
Form: Contact Poison.
Cost: $990 (singular); $360 (5-batched).
Recipe: $99; 6 days; defaults to Poisons-4.
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Contact Poison,
-5%; Extended Duration, 100x, +80%; Paralysis, +150%) [33].
Volcanic Gas
Active volcano craters, mud pots, and similar
features often vent a poisonous mixture of gases. This is a respiratory agent.
This poison flask can be thrown (range is STx3.5). Hitting a hard surface, it breaks,
creating a cloud of poison gas in a 2-yard radius. The cloud persists for 10
seconds and may drift with the wind. Any creature that inhales the gas must
make an immediate HT roll or suffer 1d-2
fatigue damage. Every 10 seconds for 4 more cycles he must make another HT roll
to resist or take the same amount of damage.
Form: Grenade.
Cost: $450 (singular); $160 (5-batched).
Recipe: $45; 2 days; defaults to
Poisons-2.
Statistics: Fatigue Attack 1d-2 (Area Effect, 2
yards, +50%; Drifting, +20%; Cyclic, 10 second, 4 cycles, Resistible, +100%;
Grenade, +25%; Persistent, +40%; Resistible, HT, -30%; Respiratory Agent, +50%)
[15].
DISEASES
Sandeyes
A creeping blindness caused by
desiccated eye tissue.
Statistics: Contact;
HT-1 to resist; 1 day delay; 1d-2 toxic damage (with Blindness after loss of
2/3 HP; if the victim loses all his HP, he becomes blinded permanently);
24-hour cycle with six cycles. Mildly contagious.
Volcanic Fever
This disease spreads through the
inhalation of ash, which causes the victim’s body temperature to rise to an
unearthly heat. A character killed by volcanic fever crumbles into fine ash
within 24 hours.
Statistics: Respiratory;
HT-2 to resist; 1d/2 days delay; 1d-2 toxic damage (with ST-2 and DX-2 after
loss of 1/3 HP; DX-4, ST-4, HT-4 after loss of ½ HP; and agony after loss of
2/3 HP); 12-hour cycle with six cycles. Not contagious.
Wasting, The
This is a supernatural disease
spread by demons and other foul creatures of the waste. Skin and tissues slowly
dry and toughen, mummifying the victim.
Statistics: Blood;
HT-3 to resist; 1 day delay; 1d-1 toxic damage (with DX-2 after loss of 1/3 HP;
DX-4 after loss of ½ HP; and Numb and terrible pain after loss of 2/3 HP); 12-hour
cycle with ten cycles. Not contagious.
