Sorcery: Animal Spells IV

Sorcery: Animal Spells IV

Three D&D/PF animal spells. Animal Growth and Reduce Animal are slightly limited versions of Enlarge Other and Shrink Other, respectively. Animal Messenger is a very limited version of Lesser Geas.

Animal Growth
Keywords: Resisted (HT).
Full Cost: 19 points for level 1 + 9 points/level + ST to support the new size.
Casting Roll: None. Use Innate Attack (Gaze) to aim.
Range: 100 yards.
Duration: 3 minutes.

If the subject animal fails to resist, the caster may enlarge it. As the subject’s size increases, so must his ST (or he would collapse under his own weight). His equipment doesn’t change size!
Each level of Animal Growth lets the caster increase his subject’s Size Modifier by +1. Find the subject’s final height from the Size Modifier Table (p. B19). Increases in SM affect the subject’s arm and leg length when calculating reach and determining whether he can negotiate obstacles; see Size Modifier and Reach (p. B402).
If the caster attempts to enlarge the subject in a room, vehicle, container, etc. that isn’t large enough to hold him, his growth normally stops. However, if maximum thrust damage for the subject’s current ST is greater than the wall or ceiling’s DR, he bursts through it. This takes one second per point of DR.
The caster must buy the ST necessary to support the subject’s enlarged form and add it to the Advantage enhancement. This is 5 x final height in yards. This ST is only available when the subject grows, and the caster must buy it with the Size limitation (see Strength, p. B14). Use the subject’s maximum SM to determine the limitation value. Note that if this additional ST is not enough to support the enlarged form of the subject, the spell fails!
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Accessibility, Animals Only, -25%; Advantage, Animal Growth, +90%; Fixed Duration, +0%; Increased 1/2D, 10x, +15%; No Signature, +20%; Sorcery, -15%) [19]. Notes: “Animal Growth” is Growth (Magical, -10%; Maximum Size Only, +0%) [9]. Additional levels add further Animal Growth to the Advantage enhancement [+9].

Animal Messenger
Keywords: Resisted (Will).
Full Cost: 42 points.
Casting Roll: Will.
Range: Unlimited.
Duration: Permanent (until fulfilled).

Give an animal a command to carry an item that the caster gives it during the casting to a specific person named by the caster. The animal then tries to reach that person as fast as possible, using its own senses – it does not gain insight on the destination. Since many animals track their prey by scent, a sample of the target is recommended.
Once the animal delivers the item, the compulsion ends.
Statistics: Affliction 1 (Will; Accessibility, Animals Only, -25%; Based on Will, +20%; Disadvantage, Obsession (No self-control roll; Deliver the item), +13%; Extended Duration, Permanent, +150%; Malediction 2, +150%; No Signature, +20%; Sorcery, -15%) [42].

Reduce Animal
Keywords: Resisted (HT).
Full Cost: 32 points for level 1 + 9 points/level.
Casting Roll: Will.
Range: Unlimited.
Duration: 3 minutes.

If the subject animal fails to resist, it shrinks. Each level of Reduce Animal lets the caster change his subject’s Size Modifier by -2. The subject changes to his minimum size in one second. He cannot carry any equipment, not even clothing, when he shrinks.
When the subject shrinks, find his new height from the Size Modifier Table (p. B19). Every -6 to SM reduces height by a factor of 10. Reduce Move, reach, damage (with unarmed attacks, Innate Attacks, or shrunken weapons), HP, and DR in proportion to height. Every full -2 to SM also reduces weight by a factor of 10; for odd-numbered levels, treat the extra -1 as an additional factor of 3 (e.g., -3 to SM reduces weight by a factor of 30).
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Accessibility, Animals Only, -25%; Advantage, Reduce Animal, +90%; Fixed Duration, +0%; Malediction 2, +150%; No Signature, +20%; Sorcery, -15%) [32]. Notes: “Reduce Animal” is Shrinking 2 (Magical, -10%; Minimum Size Only, +0%) [9]. Each additional level adds further Reduce Animal to the Advantage enhancement [+9].
