Ultra-Tech: Monodisk Guns

Ultra-Tech: Monodisk Guns

Monowire is a dangerous thing on high TLs, but it is rarely a danger at a distance. This is my first take on creating a new class of weapons, so it might be very messy.

Monodisk guns use magnetic fields to accelerate monowire disks to very high velocities, like gauss guns or rail guns. The gun itself has a mechanism that creates disks from a monowire spool (p. UT82) that is inserted into the gun as a cartridge. Since monowire spools all are standardized, all monodisk guns have the same ammo capacity and reloading time.
While monodisk guns deal less damage than gauss guns and energy weapons, they have a superior armor divisor and damage type. Targeting limbs and neck is recommended.
Monodisk guns are powered by power cells. The weapon’s power cell provides enough energy for firing its specified number of Shots, and is included in the weight. Monodisk pistol is powered by a B cell, and all other weapons are powered by a C cell.

Option: Monoshredder (TL 11^)
At +100% to cost, a monodisk weapon may incorporate a modified monodisk creation mechanism. Each monodisk that has penetrated armor and dealt injury to the target can be triggered by a special signal to violently unfold, dealing 1d-2(10) cut damage, taking in account only internal DR. The wielder of the gun can send this signal by making a Ready maneuver. This triggers all embedded monodisks fired by the gun at the same time.

  1. Spiffy! What inspired this or is this a conversion from d20?

    1. I saw that no guns deal cutting damage and decided to fix it. I was inspired by the monochain ammunition option from Ultra-Tech and eldar shuriken guns from Warhammer40k. I'm pretty sure I saw something similar in other sources too though.
