Alchemy: Psionic Alchemy

Alchemy: Psionic Alchemy

Dragon Magazine #358 has a short article about psionic alchemy - an alchemical tradition that deals with rare substances that react to the presence of psionic energies. Why haven't I noticed that article before? This post will detail all the elixirs from that article converted to my metatronic alchemy system. These elixirs might use a new skill specialty - Alchemy (Psionic). I will also retroactively assign some psionic elixirs from Dungeon Fantasy to this specialty.

Aura Gel
To activate this clear, viscous gel, you must first tear away the vial’s thin lead covering and expose it to a psionic aura. Roll against 11 with the normal range penalties towards the nearest psionic aura, rolling again when a new aura becomes the nearest aura. If you succeed, the gel emits a colorful glow, with the color based on the strongest aura within range. The glow increases or fades as it moves closer or farther from a psionic aura. This glow provides torch-equivalent illumination. After 1 minute of exposure to psionic energy, the gel turns to dust.

Cerebral Serum
The subject gains a +8 bonus to IQ and Will rolls made to resist psionics for 1 hour.
LC: 3.

Recipe: $69; 3 days; defaults to Alchemy (Psionic)-3.

Intuition Vapor
This concoction can be thrown (range is STx3.5). Upon hitting the target, it creates a cloud of yellow vapors in a 2-yard radius. The cloud persists for 10 seconds and may drift with the wind. Any psionic creature that inhales the gas makes an HT roll to resist. Should it fail, it gains a +2 bonus to IQ, but takes a -1.00 penalty to Basic Speed for margin of failure minutes.
LC: 3.
Duration: 10 seconds (cloud).
Form: Grenade.
Cost: $1,620 (singular); $580 (5-batched).
Recipe: $162; 15 days; defaults to Alchemy (Psionic)-6.
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Accessibility, Only on psis, -20%; Advantage, Intuition Vapor, +280%; Area Effect, 2 yards, +50%; Drifting, +20%; Grenade, +25%; Persistent, +40%; Respiratory Agent, +50%; Telepathy, -10%) [54]. Note: «Intuition Vapor» is IQ+2 (Telepathy, -10%; Temporary Disadvantage, Decreased Basic Speed -1.00, -20%) [28].

Liquid Stone
A flask of this substance holds a thick gray liquid with the consistency of watery mud. When a psionic character Concentrates on it, it slowly hardens into stone over 1 minutes, during which time the character may sculpt the mud however he chooses. Once it dies, liquid stone retains the same properties as normal rock. A single flask can produce 10 lbs. of stone.
LC: 4.
Duration: Instantaneous.
Form: Special.
Cost: $660 (singular); $235 (5-batched).
Recipe: $66; 3 days; defaults to Alchemy (Psionic)-3.
Statistics: Create Stone 1 (Cosmic, No roll required, +100%; Metacreativity, -10%; Reduced Fatigue Cost 2, +40%; Takes Extra Time 1, -10%) [22].

Mimic Clay
This substance possesses a dull gray color and the consistency of natural clay. To activate mimic clay, you must touch it, visualizing the desired item for 10 seconds, and make an IQ roll. The clay takes on a translucent color and its consistency softens, then it changes shape, texture, and color to duplicate the visualized item within 5 seconds. The clay retains the same mass and weight regardless of its transformation, so you must use an amount of clay equal to the weight of the object you wish to duplicate. One dose of mimic clay weighs 1 lb. Mimic clay cannot duplicate items with multiple parts or complex, moving pieces. The clay crumbles to dust 1 hour after activation.
LC: 4.
Duration: 1 hour.
Form: Special.
Cost: $2,280 (singular); $820 (5-batched).
Recipe: $228; 29 days; defaults to Alchemy (Psionic)-8.

Psi Block
This substance resembles a glossy, thin paste sticky to the touch. Applying the paste to a creature or object renders it invisible to psionic senses. This includes (but is not limited to) seeing the subject with Clairvoyance, finding it with Telescan, feeling it coming with Danger Sense or Precognition, or tracking it with Retrocognition.
LC: 4.
Duration: 1 day.
Form: Ointment.
Cost: $1,890 (singular); $680 (5-batched).
Recipe: $189; 20 days; defaults to Alchemy (Psionic)-7.
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Advantage, Psi Block, +480%; Anti-Psi, -0%; Extended Duration, 1,000x, +60%; Ointment with no Contact Agent, -15%) [63]. Notes: «Psi Block» is Obscure 10 (Clairsentience; Anti-Psi, -0%; Extended, Detect, Divination, Para-Radar, +60%; Limited, Psi, -20%; Stealthy, +100%) [48]. Extended Duration costs only 60%, because the Oitnment meta-enhancement already includes Extended Duration, 30x, +60%.

Psionic Ichor
In its natural state, psionic ichor resembles green slime. A flask of psionic ichor can be thrown as a grenadelike weapon (range is STx3.5). A psionic creature hit by the flask takes 1d fatigue damage.
LC: 3.
Duration: Instantaneous.
Form: Grenade.
Cost: $330 (singular); $120 (5-batched).
Recipe: $33; 1 day; defaults to Alchemy (Psionic)-2.
Statistics: Fatigue Attack 1d (Accessibility, Only on psis, -20%; Anti-Psi, -0%; Grenade, +25%) [11].

Rejuvenation Essence
This potion restores 1d FP depleted for psionics, if the imbiber makes a successful IQ roll. If imbibed more than once per day by a given subject, apply a cumulative -3 per successful replenishment on that subject. This penalty accumulates until a full day has passed since the most recent replenishment. This only works for humans and all “similar” races (elves, orcs, dwarves, halflings, etc.), but this potion can be made to affect, for example, animals. Such a potion will not be able to affect humanoids.
LC: 4.
Duration: Instantaneous.
Form: Potion.
Cost: $330 (singular); $120 (5-batched).
Recipe: $33; 1 day; defaults to Alchemy (Psionic)-2.
Statistics: Healing (Accessibility, Only FP depleted for psionics, -20%; Blood Agent, -40%; Capped, 2 FP, -25%; Heals Fatigue Only, +0%; Reduced Fatigue Cost 2, +40%; Takes Extra Time 1, -10%; Telepathy, -10%) [11]. Notes: Since the potion is considered to be the “caster”, we do not apply Affects Self, +50% here. Also, because this ability is not based on Affliction, we only take parts of the Potion meta-enhancement.

Xeph’s Blood
This blood-colored liquid temporarily increases the imbiber’s speed, allowing them to run faster and jump farther. The imbiber gets a +2 bonus to Basic Move.
LC: 3.
Duration: 3d seconds.
Form: Potion.
Cost: $240 (singular); $85 (5-batched).
Recipe: $24; 1 day; defaults to Alchemy (Psionic)-1.
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Advantage, Xeph’s Blood, +90%; Chronokinesis, -10%; Potion, -25%; Reduced Duration, 1/10, -80%) [8]. Notes: «Xeph’s Blood» is Basic Move +2 (Chronokinesis, -10%) [8]. Reduced Duration costs -80%, because the Potion meta-enhancement includes Extended Duration, 30x, +60%.
