Sorcery: Pirate Spells

Sorcery: Pirate Spells

Pyramid #3-64 has a nice magical style called Scurvy-Dog Sorcery. Let's convert the unique spells! Identify Loot lets the caster determine the relative value of objects. Seek Navy lets the caster find his ship. Safe Boarding allows the subject to safely walk from one ship to another, or from a ship to a dock.

Identify Loot
Keywords: Information.
Full Cost: 37 points.
Casting Roll: Per. Use IQ for analysis.
Range: Unlimited.
Duration: Instantaneous.

After casting, the GM rolls against the sorcerer’s Per, with a penalty based on the distance to the nearest inanimate valuable object. Use the standard range penalties (p. B550). If successful, the object is revealed to the caster’s eyes, and the caster may make a follow-up IQ roll (at no penalty) to get a vague sense of why the object is valuable and its value relative to other detected objects. The GM should estimate the value for each item as if it were assessed by the nearest appropriate merchant for this type of item. The GM should feel free to approximate, since the spell doesn’t tell the caster the actual price!
Any known valuable objects may be excluded if the caster mentions them before casting.
Statistics: Detect Valuable Object (Precise, +100%; Selective Effect, +20%; Sorcery, -15%; Vision-Based, -20%) [37].

Safe Boarding
Keywords: Buff.
Full Cost: 16 points.
Casting Roll: None. Use Innate Attack (Gaze) to aim.
Range: 100 yards.
Duration: 3 minutes.

This spell allows the subject to walk on air with his ground Move, but with a few restriction: He may travel only over a fixed distance no greater than his Move in yards, and there must be water below him as he walks. If he stops or is knocked down in mid-air, he will not fall, however; the air between the two ships is like a solid plank for him.
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Advantage, Safe Boarding, +40%; Fixed Duration, +0%; Increased 1/2D, 10x, +15%; No Signature, +20%; Sorcery, -15%) [16]. Note: “Safe Boarding” is Walk on Air (Does not fall when knocked down, +30%; Environmental, Over water, -20%; Limited Distance, Move, -80%; Magical, -10%) [4].

Seek Navy
Keywords: Information.
Full Cost: 26 points.
Casting Roll: Per. Use IQ for analysis.
Range: Unlimited.
Duration: Instantaneous.

After casting, the GM rolls against the sorcerer’s Per, with a penalty based on the distance to the nearest ship. Use the long-distance modifiers. If successful, the caster knows the exact distance and direction to the ship, and may make a follow-up IQ roll (at no penalty) to learn basic details about it.
Any known ships may be excluded if the caster mentions them before casting.
Statistics: Detect Ship (Long-Range 1, +50%; Precise, +100%; Selective Effect, +20%; Sorcery, -15%) [26].
