Monster: Mind Worm

Monster: Mind Worm

The mind worm is a terrifying monster that can view you remotely, then snag you through a mirror or other reflective surface, then drain your HT, then swallow you from afar, then digest you.

Probe Worms (11): The mind worm has four tendrils of crackling red energy that it can project to a distant location. These probe worms do not function at all, unless projected to another place. The probe worms must emerge from a fluid or reflective surface (usually seen from afar via Clairvoyance). These worms aren’t truly severed from the body, but are projected through an extra dimension. They can be used to grapple, strike, lift and throw objects, and wield tools and weapons, provided the weight of anything picked up doesn’t exceed 2xBL. The mind worm can even pull back a victim through space to bite and swallow him. If working at a distance, apply Long-Distance Modifiers (p. B241). The worm can project the probe worms in locations it can’t see, but at 5 to skill rolls for working by touch or 6 to attack rolls. However, there are no “right” or “left” worms – they can work together regardless of their orientation. The probe worms have Reach C-7. The worms have ST equal to 1/4 ST of the body, rounded down (ST 18 (KYOS: ST 8) in the typical case), HP equal to half of the body HP, rounded up (HP 38 (KYOS: HP 28) in the typical case), and DR 0. They can be targeted at -2. Should a probe worm be destroyed, a new one regrows in 2d+2 months. Wrestling at DX+2 gives the probe worms a +2 bonus to effective ST for the purpose of grappling.
The mind worm can drain HT from victims grappled by the probe worms. The victim loses 1 HT per second (this does not lower FP), and the mind worm heals 1 HP per every point of HT stolen. The victims regain lost HT at the rate they recover FP.
Terror: Any creature that touches the mind worm (or its probe worms) must make a Fright Check. If a victim succeeds at his Fright Check, he will be unaffected by the mind worm’s Terror for one hour.

  1. It's a thoroughly minor thing, but shouldn't the Extra Sensory Awareness be 34 points due to the ESP modifier?
