Alchemy: Medical Elixirs I
GURPS Magic has many medical elixirs. While I have already converted the Potion of Healing and Ointment of Regeneration, there are quite a few of them left. Alchemical Antidote is a cheap alchemical countermeasure against alchemy. Ointment of Eternal Rest is a tool for embalmers. Potion of Awakening is a surprisingly expensive potion to wake a person up. Potion of Fertility is a potency enhancer. Potion of Lichdom is a way to achieve eternal unlife.
Alchemical Antidote
This purple potion neutralizes effects of all
other magical alchemical elixirs that are affecting the subject. Roll a Quick Contest
of Alchemy/Herb Lore+2 of the brewer and HT of the imbiber, if he chooses to
resist. If the subject fails to resist, all other alchemical effects
immediately end.
Duration: Instantaneous.
Form: Potion.
Cost: $300 (singular); $110 (5-batched).
Cost (Herbal): $240 (singular); $85 (5-batched).
Recipe: $30; 1 day; defaults to Alchemy-1.

+20%; Blood Agent, -40%; Interruption, -50%; Magical, -10%; One Power, Alchemy,
-50%; Reliable 2, +10%; Takes Extra Time 1, -10%) [10]. Notes: Because this ability is not based on Affliction, we only
take parts of the Potion meta-enhancement.
Ointment of Eternal Rest
This colorless ointment makes the subject
immune to rot and decay. He cannot rise as undead. In addition, his skin
becomes harmful to the undead. Any undead touching a subject affected by this
ointment suffers 1d corrosion damage per second. This ointment is typically
used to prevent corpses from decaying and being eaten by ghouls.
Duration: Permanent.
Form: Ointment.
Cost: $780 (singular); $280 (5-batched).
Cost (Herbal): $624 (singular); $225 (5-batched).
Recipe: $78; 5 days; defaults to Alchemy-3.
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Advantage,
Ointment of Eternal Rest, +120%; Extended Duration, Permanent, +90%; Magical,
-10%; Ointment, -45%) [26]. Notes: «Ointment of Eternal Rest» is Cannot rise as
undead (Magical, -10%) [1] + Corrosion Attack 1d (Accessibility, Only on
undead, -40%; Always On, -40%; Aura, +80%; Magical, -10%; Melee Attack, Reach
C, -30%) [6] + Immunity to Decay (Magical, -10%) [5]. Extended Duration costs
only 90%, because the Ointment meta-enhancement already includes Extended
Duration, 30x, +60%.
Potion of Awakening
This potion can neutralize ongoing sleep or
unconsciousness caused by spells, powers, Afflictions, Affliction-like effects
of the Side Effect and Symptoms enhancements. The subject must make an HT roll,
at -2 if unconscious. In addition, if used more than once per day on a given
subject, he is at a cumulative ‑3 per successful awakening. This potion
also instantly wakes creatures that are asleep naturally. This potion only
works for humans and all “similar” races (elves, orcs, dwarves, halflings,
etc.), but it can be made to affect, for example, animals. Such a potion will not be able to affect humanoids.
Duration: Instantaneous.
Form: Potion.
Cost: $1,260 (singular); $450 (5-batched).
Cost (Herbal): $1,000 (singular); $360 (5-batched).

Statistics: Healing (Accessibility, Only to stop sleep and unconsciousness, -60%; Affliction Only, -40%; Based on HT, +20%; Blood Agent, -40%; Capped, 8 FP, -10%; Magical, -10%; Reduced Fatigue Cost 8, +160%; Reliable 6, +30%; Takes Extra Time 1, -10%) [42]. Notes: Since the potion is considered to be the “caster”, we do not apply Affects Self, +50% here. Also, because this ability is not based on Affliction, we only take parts of the Potion meta-enhancement.
Potion of Fertility
The subject becomes fertile and/or potent.
Except for Sexless characters, offspring will
result from any natural union made during the elixir’s duration. Unusual
combinations (e.g., elf and dwarf) will not necessarily result in offspring,
even with the potion, but the possibility is there.
Duration: 1 hour.
Form: Potion.
Cost: $240 (singular); $85 (5-batched).
Cost (Herbal): $192 (singular); $75 (5-batched).
Recipe: $24; 1 day; defaults to Alchemy-1.
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Advantage,
Potion of Fertility, +10%; Magical, -10%; Potion, -25%) [8]. Notes: «Potion of
Fertility» is Extra Fertile (Magical, -10%) [1].
Potion of Lichdom
Before drinking this potion, the would-be lich must
complete a preparation ritual. This ritual takes 30 days. These do not have to
be continuous or consecutive, but any day devoted toward the ritual cannot be
spent adventuring, working on other projects, etc.; the subject has only enough
free time to eat, sleep, bathe, and perhaps converse a bit. At the end of the
ritual, he rolls against IQ. Any failure does 6d toxic damage to the caster,
ignoring DR. A success prepares the sorcerer’s body for the next step.
To complete the transformation, the
would-be lich must drink a potion of Lichdom. When a subject drinks a potion of
Lichdom, he must roll vs. HT. If he succeeds, he dies, rising as a lich in 2d
days. If he fails, he just dies. Luck, as well as the Bless and Wish spells,
can influence this HT roll.
Duration: Truly Permanent.
Form: Potion.
Cost: $4,590 (singular); $1,650
(5-batched).
Recipe: $459; 118 days; defaults to
Alchemy (Dark)-16.
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Advantage,
Potion of Lichdom, +1,280%; Extended Duration, Truly Permanent, +300%; Magical,
-10%; Nuisance Effect, 6d toxic damage on a failure, -30%; Potion, -25%;
Preparation Required, 1 month, Variant, -80%; Requires IQ Roll, -10%) [153]. Notes:
«Potion of Lichdom» is Alternate Form (Lich*; Magical, -10%) [14 + 0.9 x Lich
template cost]. If using the template from GURPS
Magic the full cost is equal to 126. The costs are calculated, using this
template.
