Alchemy: Magical Elixirs II
Some more magical elixirs from GURPS Magic. Ointment of Pain Resistance hardens the subject against pain. Potion of Invisibility does not last long, but is still immensely useful. Potion of Luck is a great thing as well. Potion of Magic Resistance is a cheap protection against mages.
Ointment of Pain Resistance
This red ointment grants the subject the High
Pain Threshold advantage (p. B59).
Duration: 1 hour.
Form: Ointment.
Cost: $420 (singular); $150 (5-batched).
Cost (Herbal): $336 (singular); $120 (5-batched).
Recipe: $42; 2 days; defaults to Alchemy-2.
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Advantage,
Ointment of Pain Resistance, +90%; Magical, -10%; Ointment, -45%) [14]. Notes: «Ointment
of Pain Resistance» is High Pain Threshold (Magical, -10%) [9].
Potion of Invisibility
This white potion makes the subject invisible.
The subject still makes noise, leaves footprints, and has a scent – and
anything the subject is carrying (up to the Medium encumbrance) becomes
invisible too. The subject gets a +9 to Stealth in any situation where being
seen would matter, if he is carrying no more than his Medium encumbrance.
Individuals using paranormal remote
viewing (crystal balls, Clairvoyance, etc.) cannot see the subject if the
subject would be invisible to their normal vision. Paranormal abilities that
detect enemies, life, and so on non-visually can still see the subject.
Invisibility only works against
electromagnetic vision (which encompasses ordinary vision, Infravision,
Ultravision, and radar). The subject does not cast a shadow and doesn’t show up
in mirrors.
This effect ends if the subject
attacks any creature. For purposes of this effect, an attack includes any spell
targeting a foe or whose area or effect includes a foe. Exactly who is a foe
depends on the invisible character's perceptions. Actions directed at
unattended objects do not break the spell. Causing harm indirectly is not an
attack. Thus, an invisible being can open doors, talk, eat, climb stairs,
summon monsters and have them attack, cut the ropes holding a rope bridge while
enemies are on the bridge, remotely trigger traps, open a portcullis to release
attack dogs, and so forth. If the subject attacks directly, however, it immediately
becomes visible along with all its gear.
Duration: 9 minutes.
Form: Potion.
Cost: $2,130 (singular); $765
(5-batched).
Recipe: $213; 26 days; defaults to
Alchemy-8.
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Advantage,
Potion of Invisibility, +680%; Extended Duration, 3x, -40%; Magical, -10%;
Potion, -25%) [71]. Notes: «Potion of Invisibility» is Invisibility (Affects
Machines, +50%; Can Carry Objects, Medium, +50%; Dispels after an attack, -20%;
Magical, -10%) [68]. Extended Duration costs -40% because the Potion
meta-enhancement already includes Extended Duration, 30x, +60%.
Potion of Luck
The subject gains the Luck advantage (p. B66), that
can be used once within 24 hours and then expires.
Duration: 1 day.
Form: Potion.
Cost: $810 (singular); $290 (5-batched).
Recipe: $81; 4 days; defaults to Alchemy-3.
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Advantage,
Potion of Luck, +140%; Extended Duration, 1,000x, +60%; Magical, -10%; Potion, -25%)
[27]. Notes: “Potion of Luck” is Luck (Game Time, +0%; Magical, -10%) [14].
Extended Duration costs only 60%, because the Potion meta-enhancement already
includes Extended Duration, 30x, +60%.

of Magic Resistance (p. B67).
