Alchemy: Medical Elixirs II
More medical elixirs from GURPS Magic converted to my metatronic alchemy system. Potion of Hybridization is the origin of owlbears, it seems. Potion of Health cures diseases. Potion of Long Slumber lets the subject enter suspended animation. Ointment of Reanimation can make a corpse talk.
Ointment of Reanimation
By applying this ointment to a corpse’s mouth,
you can force it to answer any one specific question that he can answer with a
brief sentence. To attempt a probe, you must first touch your subject,
concentrate for one second, and make an IQ roll, as you are trying to animate
the corpse by transferring some of your life force. You must also share a
language with him.
The subject cannot resist, but your
IQ roll is at a penalty equal to the number of full days the subject has been
dead, and you only get one try. If you win, you give the corpse a semblance of
life and force it to give you the answer. The answer is what the subject
believes to be true – if he doesn’t know, he’ll tell you.
Duration: Instantaneous.
Form: Ointment.
Cost: $180 (singular); $65 (5-batched).
Recipe: $18; 1 day; defaults to Alchemy (Dark)-1.
Statistics: Mind Probe (Accessibility, Only on
corpses, -20%; Contact Agent, -30%; Cosmic, Works on the dead, +50%; Magical,
-10%; Melee Attack, Reach C, -30%; Takes Extra Time 3, -30%) [6]. Feature: Time
penalty replaces the normal Quick Contest.
Potion of Health
This orange potion can cure disease of a living
creature. The subject makes an HT roll. The roll is at a cumulative -3 penalty
for every successful use on the same subject within 24 hours, at a flat -2
penalty if the subject is unconscious, and at an additional modifier to cure
disease (see below). Failure costs the subject 1d FP. The HT roll is at a
modifier set by the GM, from +1 for a common cold to -15 for bone marrow
cancer. If successful, the subject loses FP equal to twice the absolute value
of the penalty, minimum 1. For example, if a kidney infection causes a -3
penalty to skill, the subject would lose 6 FP.
Duration: Instantaneous.
Form: Potion.
Cost: $900 (singular); $325 (5-batched).
Cost (Herbal): $720 (singular); $260 (5-batched).

Agent, -40%; Disease Only, -40%; Magical, -10%; Takes Extra Time 1, -10%; Xeno-Healing,
Anything Alive, +80%) [30]. Notes: Since the potion is considered to be the
“caster”, we do not apply Affects Self, +50% here. Also, because this ability
is not based on Affliction, we only take parts of the Potion meta-enhancement.
Potion of Hybridization
Enables two living creatures of different
species to produce offspring that are exotic or monstrous hybrids. Two doses
must be made at the same time; one is given to each parent. If the parents are
of different sizes, the offspring’s size will be based on the mother’s. The
subject resists the impulse to unnatural mating that results with Will against
the brewer’s Alchemy/Herb Lore skill. Potions of Hybridization for each pair of
species are considered separate elixirs that must be researched separately.
Duration: 1 mating or 1 hour, if the mating
does not happen.
Form: Potion.

(5-batched).
Recipe: $225; 29 days; defaults to

[75].
Potion of Long Slumber
The subject enters a state of suspended
animation. Anyone unfamiliar with this effect must win a Quick Contest of
Diagnosis vs. the subject’s HT + 10 to discover that the subject isn’t dead. In
this state, the subject does not need to breathe, and can go safely without
food and water 1024 times longer. The subject is unaware of its surroundings
while in suspended animation, but awakens automatically if injured. The imbiber
may also set a mental “alarm clock” to awaken himself after a certain amount of
time has passed.
Duration: Variable.
Form: Potion.
Cost: $630 (singular); $225 (5-batched).
Cost (Herbal): $505 (singular); $180 (5-batched).
