Monster: Vargouille

Monster: Vargouille

The vargouille is a low-tier extraplanar monster that probably will only be a challenge if summoned in large groups. However, their ability to trigger Fright Checks and turn creatures into vargouilles might be inconvenient.

Sharp Teeth (13): thrust 1d-5 cutting (KYOS: 1d-9 cutting) + follow-up 1 toxic (3 1-hour cycles; Resisted with HT), Reach C.
Kiss (13): A vargouille can kiss a target by making a successful unarmed attack against the target’s unprotected face. An affected opponent must succeed on a HT roll or begin a terrible transformation that turns the creature into a vargouille within 24 hours (and often much sooner; roll 1d separately for each phase of the transformation). First, over a period of 1d hours, all the victim’s hair falls out. Within another 1d hours thereafter, the ears grow into leathery wings, tentacles sprout on the chin and scalp, and the teeth become long, pointed fangs. During the next 1d hours, the victim takes loses 1 IQ each hour (maximum 3). The transformation is complete 1d hours later, when the subject experiences a heart attack and, if not resuscitated, the head breaks free of the body (which promptly dies) and becomes a vargouille. This transformation is interrupted by sunlight (it can delay death), but to reverse the transformation requires Cure Disease at -3 or Remove Curse. Dispel Magic will not lift this effect.
Shriek: When a creature hears the shriek of a vargouille, it must roll a Fright Check. If a victim succeeds at his Fright Check, he will be unaffected by this ability for one hour.
