Gatekeeping Problem #1
As a fun exercise, I wrote a problem. Using only rules from GURPS Basic Set, how many mistakes can you find here?
Onhur has the following:
ST 14 [40] HP 14 [0]
DX 12 [40]
IQ 10 [0]
HT 12 [20]
thr 1d/sw 2d
Combat Reflexes [15]
Broadsword (A) DX+2 - 14 [12]
Shield (E) DX+1 - 13 [2]
Thrusting Broadsword (sw+1 cut or thr+2 imp at Reach 1)
Scale Armor (DR 4; torso, groin)
Large Shield (DB 3)
Zahir has the following:
ST 11 [10] HP 11 [0]
DX 11 [20]
IQ 12 [40]
HT 11 [10]
thr 1d-1/sw 1d+1
Flail (A) DX+2 - 13 [12]
Nunchaku (sw+1 cr at Reach 1, 0U parry)
Cloth Armor (DR 1*; torso, groin)
Fight
Zahir goes first. At a distance of 1 yard, he makes an Attack maneuver to target Onhur's right arm (the weapon arm). He rolls against Flail 11 (13 base skill - 2 arm) and gets a 10. This is a miss by 1, so this is a potential torso hit. Onhur makes a Block attempt - he rolls against Block 11 (Shield 13 / 2 + 3 + 1 Combat Reflexes + 3 DB - 2 blocking a flail) and gets a 5. This is a successful block, so the nunchaku hits the shield squarely. Zahir rolls 1d+2 crushing damage and applies it to Onhur's shield.
Onhur strikes back. He makes an Attack maneuver to make a swinging attack, targeting Zahir's vitals. He rolls against Broadsword 11 (14 base skill - 3 vitals) and gets 9. Zahir tries to Parry, rolling against Parry 9 (Flail 13 / 2 + 3) and gets a 8, parrying successfully.
It's Zahir's turn again. He swings his nunchaku as an All-Out Attack (Determined) against Onhur's left hand (shield hand). He makes a roll against Flail 13 (13 base skill + 4 All-Out Attack - 4 hand) and get a 6. Onhur attempts to block the attack while retreating. He rolls against Block 14 (Shield 13 / 2 + 3 + 1 Combat Reflexes + 3 DB - 2 blocking a flail + 3 Retreat) and rolls 15. Zahir rolls 1d+2 crushing damage and gets a 5. Onhur subtracts it from his HP and now is at HP 9/14.
Onhur steps back within Reach 1 and strikes back. He does a thrusting attack against Zahir's right arm (weapon arm). He makes an Attack maneuver, rolling against Broadsword 12 (14 base skill - 2 arm) and gets a 10. Zahir tries a Retreating Dodge, retreating into a hex that is occupied by his unnamed ally. He rolls against Dodge 11 (8 + 3 Retreat) and gets 14. Onhur rolls 1d+2 impaling damage and gets 4. Applying the injury multiplier of x2, Zahir takes 8 points of injury. This is over 1/2 of his HP, so it cripples his arm. Zahir is now at HP 3/11. Zahir makes a roll against HT 11 to avoid knockdown and gets a 13, falling unconscious.
I don't think you made any point cost mistakes, but I didn't have time to verify. The fight, however, contains the following mistakes: (without looking, I don't know for sure if a "miss by 1" for Arm hits torso...I know that's for Vitals though, so that could be an error); first definite error is striking Vitals with swing (can't do it); second is that Zahir parries after attacking with a 0U weapon (can't do it!); third is that Onhur doesn't get +3 from a Retreating Block, but only +1; fourth is that an Extremity is crippled with injury over HP/3, which for Onhur is 4.67 damage (so 5), which is how much Zahir inflicted, so Onhur should drop his shield and make a Stun/KO check due to Major Wound from crippling injury (this might be multiple mistakes, depending on how you look at it); fifth, Zahir should be at -4 from Shock on his attack, which would cause him to miss, rendering the rest of the fight automatically wrong; however, if we assume Zahir still hits, then, sixth, I don't think you can retreat into an occupied hex, even when it is an ally but I haven't looked; regardless, limbs don't suffer the x2 injury modify from impaling damage, so actual injury is just 4, which isn't enough to trigger a crippling injury and therefore no S/KO check is needed.
ReplyDeleteHow'd I do?
Oh, there's also something wrong with the shield damage tracking. I think you both didn't apply the first damage roll AND aren't taking into account Shield DR. OR maybe you are taking into account Shield DR and therefore the tracking is correct. Either way, you are tracking shield damage, clearly a mistake (lol)!
ReplyDeleteI can't help myself. Since you stipulated Basic Set only, that shield has DR 9 and 60 HP (omg lol...). So it's not taking any damage from the nunchaku.
