Magic: Animal Spells
And here are several animal spells from D&D 3.5 Player's Handbook that could be used by GURPS druids or other animal mages. Animal Growth and Reduce Animal change an animal's size. Animal Messenger forces it to deliver a message, and Hide from Animal makes the subject invisible to animals.
(Animal)
Growth (VH)
Regular; Resisted by HT
As Enlarge Other, but only usable on
animals of the selected category. The spell can only be countered by the
original caster or by Remove Curse. Like (Animal) Control, this is actually
several different spells. There is an (Animal) Growth spell for each category of
animal.
Duration: 1
hour.
Cost: 15 per
+1 SM. Same cost to maintain.
Time to cast:
10 seconds.
Prerequisites:
Magery 3 and Shapeshift Others.
Item
(a) Wand. Usable only by mages; the item must
touch the subject. Energy cost to create:
2,000. (b) A size change can be made permanent for 100 times casting cost (the
GM may require that the subject’s new size be maintained while the enchantment
goes on!)
(Animal) Messenger
Regular; Resisted by Will
The caster compels an animal to go
to a spot he designates. The most common use for this spell is to get an animal
to carry a message to the caster’s allies.
If the animal’s reaction to the
caster is Neutral or better, then the caster can mentally impress on the animal
a certain place well known to him or an obvious landmark. The directions must
be simple, because the animal depends on the caster’s knowledge and can’t find
a destination on its own. The caster can attach some small item or note to the
messenger. The animal then goes to the designated location and waits there
until the duration of the spell expires, whereupon it resumes its normal
activities.
During this period of waiting, the
messenger allows others to approach it and remove any scroll or token it
carries. The intended recipient gains no special ability to communicate with
the animal or read any attached message (if it’s written in a language he or
she doesn’t know, for example).
Like (Animal) Control, this is actually
several different spells. There is an (Animal) Messenger spell for each
category of animal.
Duration: 1 day.
Cost: 2 to
cast. Cannot be maintained.
Prerequisite:
(Animal) Control for the corresponding category of animal.
Item
(a) Staff, wand, or jewelry. Allows the user to
use the spell on a single species of animal. Energy cost to create: 100 energy per point of target species’
racial IQ. (b) Staff, wand, or jewelry. Allows the user to use the spell on any
animal within a category. Energy cost to
create: 400.
Hide from (Animal)
Regular
Animals cannot see, hear, or smell
the subject. Animals simply act as though the warded creatures are not there. Anything
the subject picks up becomes invisible to animals, unless he wills it to stay
visible. The spell ends instantly if the subject attacks, casts a combat spell,
or does anything else more violent than moving, spying, or stealing.
Like (Animal) Control, this is actually
several different spells. There is a Hide from (Animal) spell for each category
of animal.
Duration: 10
minutes.
Cost: 4 to
cast. 2 to maintain.
Time to cast:
3 seconds.
Prerequisites:
Magery 1, Master and (Animal) Control for the corresponding category of animal.
Item
(a) Jewelry, wand, or staff; only affects the
wearer. Energy cost to create: 1,200. (b) An item can be made permanently
invisible to animals at an energy cost of 500 per hex of size or 50 pounds of
weight, whichever is greater.
Reduce (Animal) (VH)
Regular; Resisted by HT
As Shrink Other, but only usable on animals
of the selected category. The spell can only be countered by the original
caster or by Remove Curse. The GM should keep in mind the potential
psychological effects of this spell on unaware or unwilling subjects. Like
(Animal) Control, this is actually several different spells. There is an Reduce
(Animal) spell for each category of animal.
