Wizardry: Necromantic Spells V

Wizardry: Necromantic Spells V

The dice sure like necromancy. Inflict Wounds has predefined levels that deal different amounts of damage. I decided against converting the mass version of this spell, as unresistible area damage is too much. Speak with Dead lets you interrogate corpses. Slay Living causes a heart attack. Gentle Repose stops corpses from rotting.

    Gentle Repose
    Keywords: Buff.
    Full Cost: 25 points.
    Casting Roll: Skill.
    Components: V, S.
    Cost: 3 FP.
    Casting Time: 10 minutes.
    Range: Touch.
    Duration: 6 days.

You preserve the remains of a dead creature so that they do not decay. Doing so effectively extends the time limit on raising that creature from the dead. Days spent under the influence of this spell don’t count against the time limit for such spells. Additionally, this spell makes transporting a fallen comrade more pleasant. The spell also works on severed body parts and the like.
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Accessibility, Corpses only, -60%; Advantage, Gentle Repose, +50%; Based on IQ, Own Roll, +20%; Costs Fatigue, 3 FP, -15%; Extended Duration, 3,000x, +140%; Fixed Duration, +0%; Immediate Preparation Required, 10 minutes, -45%; Magical, -10%; Malediction 1, +100%; Melee Attack, Reach C, -30%; No Signature, +20%; Requires Gestures, -10%; Requires Magic Words, -10%) [25]. Note: “Gentle Repose” is Immunity to Rot (Magical, -10%) [5].

This spell charges the caster’s hand with necromantic energies. If the caster touches a living creature, he deals toxic damage, ignoring DR. The amount of damage dealt depends on the spell’s version. Inflict Minor Wounds deals 1 point of toxic damage. Inflict Light Wounds deals 1d-2 toxic damage. Inflict Moderate Wounds deals 1d toxic damage. Inflict Serious Wounds deals 2d toxic damage. Inflict Critical Wounds deals 3d toxic damage.
Statistics: Toxic Attack 1 point (Cosmic, Irresistible Attack, +300%; Costs Fatigue, 1 FP, -5%; Magical, -10%; Melee Attack, Reach C, Cannot Parry, -35%; Requires Gestures, -10%; Requires IQ Roll, -10%; Requires Magic Words, -10%) [4]. The light version improves it to 1d-2 [+3]. The moderate version improves it to 1d [+6]. The serious version improves it to 2d [+13]. The critical version improves it to 3d [+13].

Slay Living
Keywords: Resisted (HT).
Full Cost: 23 points.
Casting Roll: Skill.
Components: V, S.
Cost: 2 FP.
Casting Time: 1 second.
Range: Touch.
Duration: Instantaneous.

By touching a living creature, you stop its heart. If you win your casting contest by 5 or more, or if the victim rolls a critical failure, then the victim suffers a heart attack (p. B429). If your margin of victory is 1-4, then the subject is physically stunned. He may roll against HT to recover normally on the next turn.

    Speak with Dead
    Keywords: Information.
    Full Cost: 10 points.
    Casting Roll: Skill.
    Components: V, S.
    Cost: 1 FP.
    Casting Time: 10 minutes.
    Range: Touch.
    Duration: Instantaneous.

You grant the semblance of life and intellect to a corpse, allowing it to answer a question that you put to it. The corpse’s knowledge is limited to what the creature knew during life, including the languages it spoke (if any). Answers are usually brief, cryptic, or repetitive. The body must be mostly intact to be able to respond. A damaged corpse may be able to give partial answers or partially correct answers, but it must at least have a mouth in order to speak at all.
Your casting roll is at a penalty equal to the number of full days the subject has been dead, and you only get one try.
This spell does not let you actually speak to the person (whose soul has departed). It instead draws on the imprinted knowledge stored in the corpse. The partially animated body retains the imprint of the soul that once inhabited it, and thus it can speak with all the knowledge that the creature had while alive. The corpse, however, cannot learn new information. Indeed, it can’t even remember being questioned.
This spell does not affect a corpse that has been turned into an undead creature.
Statistics: Mind Probe (Accessibility, Only on corpses, -20%; Cosmic, Works on the dead, +50%; Costs Fatigue, 1 FP, -5%; Immediate Preparation Requires, 10 minutes, -45%; Magical, -10%; Requires Gestures, -10%; Requires Magic Words, -10%) [10]. Feature: Time penalty replaces the normal Quick Contest.
