Ultra-Tech: Superwire Guns

Ultra-Tech: Superwire Guns

There is one kinetic ammunition option from GURPS Vehicles that didn't make it to 4e, unfortunately, - the superwire. Superwire is an option for electromagnetic and gravitic guns, but I believe that a gun that fires superwire should not be compatible with a gun that fires normal rounds, so they should be a separate sub-class of weapons. Let's port them over to 4e!

Superwire guns launch superconductor-sheathed, memory-metal, monowire projectiles that are stored as long coils of wire and are snipped off into short lengths, turning rigid within the accelerator barrel. Since monowire is a TL 9^ invention, and electromagnetic guns also appear at TL 9, these guns also should be TL 9^, but I'm going to make them TL 10^ weapons, when this technology becomes mature.

GURPS Vehicles says that superwire is limited to bore size of 2mm, so for my calculations, I will assume that this bore size. That means that it will deal half as much damage as the 4mm Gauss guns deal. What will be the damage type? GURPS Vehicles says "impaling", but 3e did not have the piercing damage type. GURPS Vehicles also lists needles as "impaling", but they deal pi- damage in 4e, so I will go with pi-. However, the damage value that will be calculcated will be for solid rounds, and monowire is different - I have to divide the damage by four, and add the (10) armor divisor. Then, I will have to halve all ranges, and reduce Accuracy by -2. Ammunition weight is unchanged, but cost is multiplied by 100.

With all this in mind, we will get weapons that are less accurate than Gauss guns, deal abysmal damage, have shorter range, but that have a huge ammo capacity, very low ST requirements, low cost, low Recoil, huge armor penetration (especially for TL10), and higher rate of fire.

As for superwire grav guns - why? They already have sliver-like projectiles and a (10) armor divisor.

Superwire Pistol (TL10^)
This pistol fires superconductor-sheathed, memory-metal, monowire projectiles.
Included Accessories: Diagnostic Computer (TL9) (UT151); HUD Link (Wireless) (TL9) (UT149); Internal B Cell (UT19); Iron Sights; Micro radio communicator (TL9) (UT44); Multispectral Laser Sight (TL9) (UT149); Recognition Grip (requires only palm print) (TL9) (UT150).
Additional Parameters: HP 4; HT 10; DR 4; Malf Ver. means that the weapon is very reliable: on an unmodified roll of 18, roll against unmodified weapon skill to verify the critical failure, with only a failure meaning a malfunction occurs. Otherwise, it is just a miss.
Additional Power Source: The two B cells (UT19) that power the weapon (not the internal electronics) provide enough energy for firing its specified number of Shots, and are included in the weight.

Superwire PDW (TL10^)
This PDW fires superconductor-sheathed, memory-metal, monowire projectiles. This weapon is able to either use RoF 18 or switch to a limited burst mode to fire bursts of 6 projectiles (up to three bursts) as per High-Cyclic Controlled Bursts (p. HT83).
Included Accessories: Accessory Rail (Under barrel) (TL9) (UT150); D-Tag (TL9) (UT151); Diagnostic Computer (TL9) (UT151); HUD Link (Wireless) (TL9) (UT149); IFF Interrogator (TL9) (UT151); Internal B Cell (UT19); Iron Sights; Micro radio communicator (TL9) (UT44); Multispectral Laser Sight (TL9) (UT149); Transponder Ring (TL9) (UT150).
Additional Parameters: HP 8; HT 10; DR 4; Malf Ver. means that the weapon is very reliable: on an unmodified roll of 18, roll against unmodified weapon skill to verify the critical failure, with only a failure meaning a malfunction occurs. Otherwise, it is just a miss.

Superwire Rifle (TL10^)
This rifle fires superconductor-sheathed, memory-metal, monowire projectiles. This weapon is able to either use RoF 20 or switch to a limited burst mode to fire bursts of 6 projectiles (up to three bursts) as per High-Cyclic Controlled Bursts (p. HT83).
Included Accessories: Accessory Rail (Over barrel) (TL9) (UT150); Accessory Rail (Under barrel) (TL9) (UT150); D-Tag (TL9) (UT151); Diagnostic Computer (TL9) (UT151); HUD Link (Wireless) (TL9) (UT149); IFF Interrogator (TL9) (UT151); Internal B Cell (UT19); Iron Sights; Micro radio communicator (TL9) (UT44); Multispectral Laser Sight (TL9) (UT149); Smartgrip (TL10) (UT152); Transponder Ring (TL9) (UT150).
Additional Power Source: The C cell (UT19) that powers the weapon (not the internal electronics) provides enough energy for firing its specified number of Shots, and is included in the weight.
