Ultra-Tech: New/Old Options for Guns

Ultra-Tech: New/Old Options for Guns

Now that I'm looking more closely at 3e Ultra-Tech and 3e Vehicles, I notice some options that did not make it to 4e. Let's convert them.

Weapon Modifications

One-Shot Railgun (TL9): A 20mm or larger electromagnetic gun can be designed so that its rails collapse as it fires, burning the weapon out in one powerful shot. Damage and range are increased by 50%, RoF becomes 1, and the entire weapon must be replaced after firing. At TL10, this option becomes available to electromagnetic guns of 7mm or larger. -0.8 CF.

Variable-Velocity (TL9): Electromagnetic weapons have the variable-velocity setting by default. Certain models can be built without this setting, making the weapon cheaper. -0.2 CF.

Ammunition

Hyper-Velocity Spheroids (TL10): Used in 3mm Gauss needlers, these are tiny (.02-caliber), spherical pellets made of low-density metal. They lose energy rapidly, making ricochets and stray shots less dangerous, and so are favored by police. Do not change damage, but divide 1/2D and Max ranges by 10.,and remove the armor divisor. Overpenetration (p. B408) does not occur. HVS are smaller; a magazine has twice the shots. Ammo costs and weighs the same.

Ramjet Rounds (TL9): This is a round that turns into a mini-rocket in midair, giving much greater range and penetration. Like gyrocs, a ramjet rounds can carry a payload. The ramjet is a round filled with solid rocket fuel, with an air vent up front. When the round is fired, air is forced into the vent, igniting the rocket fuel and propelling the round much faster than conventional cartridges.
Add 50% to range and +1 per die to kinetic damage, but only in an atmosphere. The warhead itself is reduced in size by one step (40mm to 25mm, 25mm to 18.5mm, and so on). The round must travel 2 yards before the rocket fuel is ignited. This round is available for all mortars, cannons, payload rifles, and similar weapons that deliver warheads on high speed (not grenade launchers, shotguns, or missile launchers) with bore size of 18.5 or larger. Three times normal cost. LC1.
