Sorcery: Food Spells III
More spells for cooks and butchers! Know Recipe is useful not only for cooks, but also for alchemists. Mature is a great way to produce cheese quickly. Season can add some spice to your life. Prepare Game is an invaluable tool for lazy hunters.
Know Recipe
Keywords: Information.
Full Cost: 17 points.
Casting Roll: IQ.
Range: Touch.
Duration: Instantaneous.
When cast on any item of food, this spell lets the caster determine its recipe. This spell may be used on alchemical and chemical compounds, but at a -2 penalty.
On a failure, you do not learn anything, and cannot attempt to learn that recipe again for 24 hours. A critical failure means that you cannot attempt casting this spell on this object ever again.
Statistics: Psychometry (Accessibility, Food and Chemicals Only, -30%; Accessibility, Only to learn recipe, -30%; Active Only, -20%; Directed, +50%; Sensitive, +30%; Sorcery, -15%) [17].
Mature
Keywords: Area (Leveled).
Full Cost: 47 points for level 1 + 5
points/additional level.
Casting Roll: Will.
Range: 100 yards.
Duration: Two months.
All food in the area starts aging 10
times faster than normal for two months. Mages usually use Cancel Spells to stop
the process.
To convert area of effect (in yards)
to cubic yards, square the radius and multiply the result by 12.5. To convert
to gallons, square the radius and multiply the result by 2,500 for liquids or
2,150 for powders.
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Accessibility, Only on food, -40%; Advantage, Mature, +150%; Area Effect, 2 yards, +50%; Extended Duration, 30,000x, +180%; Fixed Duration, +0%; Increased 1/2D, 10x, +15%; No Signature, +20%; Sorcery, -15%; Variable, Area, +5%) [47]. Additional levels add Area Effect (+50%) [+5]. Notes: The DR subtracting from the casting roll rather than forcing a resistance roll (as for Buff spells) is a special effect. “Mature” is Unaging (Age Control, Only aging, +10%; Magical, -10%) [15].
Prepare Game
Keywords: None.
Full Cost: 12 points.
Casting Roll: DX or Professional
Skill (Butcher).
Range: 10 yards.
Duration: Instantaneous.
“Dresses out” a slain animal. If
cast on a deer, for instance, the hide is removed, along with all extraneous body
parts and innards. If cast on a fish, it is gutted and scaled. Nothing is destroyed
by the spell; all of the parts are simply appropriately separated and cleaned
in such a way as to best prepare the animal for cooking.
Statistics:
Telekinesis 1 (One Task, Prepare Game, -60%; Reduced Time 10, +200%; Sorcery,
-15%) [12]. Notes: See GURPS Thaumatology: Sorcery, p. 14 for the One Task limitation. Here, Reduced Time is used to
shorten a 10-minute process to one second, which was chosen because it costs
the same as an Average technique to buy off the -10 for “instant use.”
Season
Keywords: Area (Special).
Full Cost: 7 points for level 1 + 3
points/additional level.
Casting Roll: IQ or Cooking.
Range: 100 yards.
Duration: Instantaneous.
Spices and seasons food in an area up
to the spell’s level in radius to the caster’s preference. The caster’s cooking
skill determines whether the food tastes any better for it – the spell simply
adds the flavors that the caster demands.
Statistics:
Control Food 1 (Cosmetic, Only to season, -80%; Ranged, +40%; Sorcery, -15%) [7].
Additional levels add Control Food +1 (Cosmetic, Only to season, -80%; Only
increases area of effect, -50%; Ranged, +40%; Sorcery, -15%) [3/level]. As a
special effect, this forms a hemispherical dome, not a cylinder.
