Monster: Gohlbrorn

Monster: Gohlbrorn

This is my 1,000th post. Also, this is the last monster from the Illithiad that I had to convert, but there are many other illithid-related monsters left! The gohlbrorn is a smaller relative of the bulette. It is relatively smart, can communicate subsonically on their own language, and can spit rocks. A cool monster, I like it.

Monster: Lugribossk (Ilsensine's Proxy)

Monster: Lugribossk (Ilsensine's Proxy)

At first I wanted to omit this creature, because this is not a separate illithid species, but an unique being. I am not very good at reading AD&D statblocks, so I was mostly guided by the description. In its normal form, Lugribossk is an ulitharid with an ability to exude corrosive slime. In combat, it turns into a 30-foot-tall glowing giant with sharp claws, able to tear apart enemies both physically and mentally. Maybe, if Lugribossk is slain, Ilsensine will create a replacement - hence the racial template provided here.

Sorcery: Psychic Spells as Normal Spells

Sorcery: Psychic Spells as Normal Spells

As promised - new spells from Occult Adventures for Pathfinder RPG converted to normal Sorcery.

Sorcery: Psychic Spells

Sorcery: Psychic Spells

My fantasy setting has multiple spellcasting traditions, all based on Sorcery. Most of them require you to replace the power modifier, forcing you to recalculate the spell's cost. I've found that it's somewhat of a chore. One of the traditions - psychic magic (based on the system from Occult Adventures for Pathfinder RPG) - is supposed to have a quite long spell list. I've converted all the appropriate existing spells for this tradition and converted some new spells from Occult Adventures. These new spells will appear as normal Sorcery spells in the next post. This post probably will get updated if I find any other appropriate spells.

Monster: Trapper

Monster: Trapper

The trapper is the relative of the lurker above. It creeps along the floor and grabs people the walk over it, instead of falling on victims from the ceiling. For some reason it lacks the various senses of its ceiling-dwelling cousin, but is resistant to cold and fire. Probably no less obnoxious than the lurker above.

Monster: Lurker Above

Monster: Lurker Above

One of those weird classic D&D monsters. An oversized cloaker/darkmantle that drops from the ceiling, engulfs and smothers the prey. A lone adventurer doesn't really have a chance unless he has specific countermeasures. Dragon Magazine #150 lists the lurker above and the trapper as related to mind flayers, but I did not manage to find any connection.

Monsters: Yaggol

Monsters: Yaggol

The mind flayers are present even in the Dragonlance setting, although with some differences. First, they are called the yaggol, also known as akitu-shai or crawling maws. Their array of abilities is slightly different, and they are split into two castes - elites and savages. Also, they live in the jungles, not underground.

Monster: Uchuulon (Slime Chuul)

Monster: Uchuulon (Slime Chuul)

The uchuulon is a partially ceremorphed chuul. It is weaker physically, slower, but smarter and coated in protective slime. Also, has magic resistance out of nowhere.

Monster: Larval Flayer

Monster: Larval Flayer

The larval flayer is a slightly grown up illithid tadpole that will eventually transform into a fearsome neothelid. It's basically a mind-draining octopus.

Lens/Monster: Voidmind Creature/Voidmind Grimlock

Lens/Monster: Voidmind Creature/Voidmind Grimlock

Voidmind creatures are servants of the mind flayers that had almost all of their brain removed and replaced with slime that can form a tentacle. They can transmit everything they see to their mind flayer masters.

Monster: Neothelid

Monster: Neothelid

No burrow speed btw.
This is what happens when an illithid tadpole is allowed to grow without undergoing ceremorphosis. The illithids consider the topic of these psionic worms taboo. Interestingly enough, while the illithids are not present in Pathfinder RPG for legal reasons, the neothelids do not share this legal protection. In Golarion, the neothelids vie for power with the intellect devourers in the deepest underground realms. Also, Pathfinder RPG has the neothelid overlord - a two-headed psychic neothelid variant, but I am not covering that one for now. Also, I remember some third-party supplement for D&D 3.5 detailing a theliohydra.

Monster: Intellect Devourer

Monster: Intellect Devourer

The intellect devourer is a body snatching brain on legs. These are sometimes used by the mind flayers are spies.

Monster: Phthisic

Monster: Phthisic

Yet another monster that is said to be associated with the mind flayers, but its description has nothing even hinting at it. Basically, it's a spiky, psionic troll spawned from somebody's psyche.

Monster: Ineffable Horror

Monster: Ineffable Horror

The Monsters of the Mind article in Dragon Magazine #337 has a sidebar that lists monsters related to the mind flayers. The ineffable horror is one of them. I've read through its description, and the only mind flayer-related thing is that they somewhat have similar appearances. Maybe I'm just missing some pre-3.5e lore, if these monsters appeared there.

Monster: Mindwitness (Half-Illithid Beholder)

Monster: Mindwitness (Half-Illithid Beholder)

The worst/best of the worlds of magic and psionics - the combined mental might and a nasty outlook on the world of an illithid and a beholder.

Monster: Mind Worm

Monster: Mind Worm

The mind worm is a terrifying monster that can view you remotely, then snag you through a mirror or other reflective surface, then drain your HT, then swallow you from afar, then digest you.

Monster: Ustilagor

Monster: Ustilagor

Ustilagors are larval intellect devourers. They are almost mindless, but still possess some psionic abilities. They have a symbiotic relationship with a particular species of fungus that keeps it moist and protects against fungal afflictions. Ustilagors eat various fungi by dissolving and absorbing them through the skin, and are eaten by the mind flayers as a delicacy. Also, the ustilagors really like gems and attack everyone who carry them.

Monster: Nerve Swimmers

Monster: Nerve Swimmers

Yet another aberration that was created by experimenting on immature illithid tadpoles. They can parasitically possess people and are quite cruel in general.
