Sorcery: Malefice

Sorcery: Malefice

Man, this was tough. One of the spells I previously deemed unconvertable converted to Sorcery.

Malefice
Keywords: Buff.
Full Cost: 48 points.
Casting Roll: None. Special casting time and cost (see text).
Range: Touch.
Duration: Permanent.

This spell must be cast on a doll the caster fashioned with something personally relevant to the target imbedded in it. The casting of Malefice is a ritualistic process that takes 8 hours of uninterrupted concentration and requires the caster to spend one character point. The doll can be used by its maker (and no one else) to cast harmful Resisted spells that are normally cast at a distance with the normal range penalties (such as Frailty or Agony) on the target while ignoring distance penalties. The caster must hold the doll in his hand while casting said spells. The target resists normally.
Parts of the target’s body (hair, nail clipping, blood, etc.) imbedded in the doll allow casting with no penalty. Other items impose a penalty; for example, threads from a shirt worn for years might be worth -2, dirt from a fresh footprint might be worth -6.
If the victim resists the very first spell cast upon him through the doll, the enchantment is immediately broken. Otherwise, every successful resistance simply weakens the Malefice, imposing a cumulative -1 penalty to all further castings made through it. This penalty never dissipates, but the doll can be reenchanted. A critical failure by the channeled spell or a critical success by the subject also breaks the enchantment.
Destroying the doll breaks the spell, but it also makes the target resist with his HT against the caster’s Will in a Quick Contest. If the caster wins, the target takes 3d toxic injury, ignoring DR. Remove Curse frees the target from the Malefice without harm to him.
Statistics: Affliction 1 (HT; Accessibility, Only on dolls fashioned with something personally relevant to the person the doll is depicting, -60%; Advantage, Malefice, +2,300%; Costs 1 character point, x1/5; Extended Duration, Permanent, +150%; Immediate Preparation Required, 8 hours, -90%; Melee Attack, Reach C, Cannot Parry, -35%; No Signature, +20%; Sorcery, -15%; Terminal Condition, Remove Curse or successful first resistance or critical failure/success, -10%) [48]. Notes: “Malefice” is Cosmic Power 100 (Accessibility, Only for the caster and only one target, -80%; Accessibility, Only to improve Malediction 2 to Malediction 4 or give Long-Ranged 2 to harmful spells, -80%; Magical, -10%; Nuisance Effect, Cumulative penalties, -10%) [200] + Toxic Attack 3d (Accessibility, Only the target, -80%; Magical, -10%; Malediction 4, +250%; Trigger, Destruction of the doll, -15%) [30]. The most expensive advantage that could serve as a base for an appropriate spell is Possession that costs 100 points. With Ranged, +40%, it uses the normal range penalties. Giving it Long-Range 2, +100% would require 100 points, hence the 100 points of Cosmic Power.
